7-Eleven Inc

Business Operations Intern

June - August 2018 • St. Petersburg, FL

What I liked

This internship was great in helping build my workplace relations with employees and gaining comfort in a corporate setting. Getting a chance to fly out to Ohio to meet senior VP's and many other higher level management helped boost my confidence when speaking to business executives.

What I wish was different

I think this internship needs a little more structure in terms of the variance between experience for each intern since many of us learned different things.

Advice

This internship is definitely for someone that wants to gain in depth experience of how a corporate 500 company works and it is a very beneficial for someone wanting to get real life hands-on management development.

HR Intern

February 2016 • Hickory Hills, IL

What I liked

This is a year round internship that is VERY accomodating for your school schedule. I loved interviewing and the administrative tasks however my favorite would be the people I work with. From Customer Service Representatives to the V.P. of Human Resources this is an exceptionally well-rounded program for determined students with various majors who want experience in full-cycle recruiting.

What I wish was different

I wish we did more "out of the office" events. It is only one in a while interns are invited to go speak at events or help host open-interviews.

Advice

Take this role very seriously; a lot of past interns were lackadaisical in how they approach their duties. If you understand that this is a job and not a hobby you'll go very far!

Recruiting Intern

May - August 2018 • Jefferson Hills, PA

What I liked

I enjoyed working Monday thru Friday 8am-4pm. I'm used to waitressing on weekends, so working only during the week was nice. The company provided me with a laptop and I had my own little office space with a phone. The Recruiters that I worked under was what really made the internship enjoyable, excellent morale. It enjoyed weekly pay and I enjoyed interviewing people.

What I wish was different

I wish I would of waited till Fall Semester to do the internship because the price of the summer class along with the internship was expensive.

Advice

You must have strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills; this job entails setting up in-store interviews, cold calling candidates, finding the right people for the jobs, and moving people through the application process. Some days you might call 40-50 people a day so developing a system in important.

Application Support Intern

May - August 2018 • Enon, OH

What I liked

Great people, great projects! There was a lot of freedom to use the knowledge that you acquire in school and apply that to the projects that they will have you work on in IT. The project was very challenging, and had a lot of requirements that need to be updated. I really enjoyed the freedom that my boss gave me with designing the layout of the application I made, along with the business logic of working with an internal web application.

What I wish was different

I wish that I would have had more time to work on the project, and I say that because I was one of the first interns in my department.

Advice

This is a great company to end up at and is growing very fast. They are always looking to hire on interns to be full time.

Corporate Operations Intern

June - August 2019 • Marlborough, MA

What I liked

Some of the greatest experiences of this internship were traveling and getting to see operations at different levels of the business. For example, I spent five weeks working with a General Manager in a store and then several weeks with a District Manager that oversaw multiple stores. Interns were sent to the Corporate Headquarters in Enon, Ohio at the beginning of the Internship for a Company Orientation and then once again at the end of the summer for a group presentation and wrap-up.

Advice

Always be open to learning new things and asking questions for clarification. If your opinion on a subject matter is requested then give your honest, constructive feedback.

Human Resources Intern

May - July 2019 • Columbus, OH

What I liked

The employees in Speedway were amazing. They have a great team that makes you feel very welcome. I got to spend time with my boss traveling and completing employee satisfaction surveys. I was able to advance my Excel skills and learn more about Microsoft as a whole.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have been able to have more time with my boss and learn more about her role since her role is more focused on the human resources field than my internship role was.

Advice

Reach out to other recruiters and your boss to keep yourself busy and show initiative to those in the organization.

Customer Care Representative

May - September 2019 • Brooklyn Center, MN

What I liked

I love my Co-workers. They’re one of the most important group of people in my life. They’re hardworking, respectful etc..always used to get work done on time! I love the vibe at speedway..my location was the best! I also love the fact that I could put smiles on most of the customer’s faces. It was such a great Experience.

What I wish was different

I wish I could’ve continue working there. So I got hired by Super America and when I was returning back this summer, I had to re-apply as a result, they started me off with $10.50 instead of my regular $11.75 rate when I was working for SA . Super America used to keep your spot and allow you to resume work whenever without re-applying but Speedway don’t so yeah that sucks. Secondly, I had to come back to School here at MNSU so I had to quit the job again.

Advice

To be honest, that was one of my best summers yet. Speedway is a great company. Safety is their number 1 priority. They ensure their staffs are happy and functioning well and many many more so apply at your nearest location now and you won’t regret it.

Gas Station Attendant

February 2018 • Depew, NY

What I liked

Everything! The retail experience was very easy to adapt to and learn. Working across from the Buffalo Airport allowed me to meet people from all walks of life and learn cultures and nationalities from all around the globe which in turn diversified my world view. I was also a congratulated worker and very appreciated for my hard, determined work I put in every day and all day.

What I wish was different

I wish the company I was working for original (NOCO) was never bought out by Speedway. We were a local company and the job was extremely enjoyable and professional but after the change over everything became stressful for everyone working there and I lost a lot of good co workers due to it.

Advice

Take a job if the surroundings are intriguing. To me having a job isn’t necessarily about just the job but what you take in around that area. A job far from home allows you to experience a new part of town you may never have seen before.

HR Recruiting Intern

May - August 2019 • Clairton, PA

What I liked

I felt as though I was a real employee at this company. I was trained thoroughly, all of my questions were answered, and I felt as though I was respected and valued.

What I wish was different

I think that within the company itself, the recruiting staff had a difficult time finding enough applicants to recruit, which created a stressful environment for workers.

Advice

While this internship was not directly related to what I am studying (I am communications and the internship was HR) I still learned a lot about myself and what I want to do with my future. I think stepping outside of the box for this internship gave me a valuable experience and a new set of skills I would not have had otherwise.
