Social Media Coordinator (Student Position)
Location: Alkek Library, San Marcos Campus (601 University Dr.)
(Physical Address: near intersection of Talbot and Woods Streets)
Reporting to Debbie Pitts, the University Libraries Marketing & Communications Coordinator, the Social Media Coordinator will design, create and publish content to the Alkek Library and University Libraries (UL) social media channels (including video content) and will monitor social media trends and metrics. Selected candidate will be responsible for implementing the UL social media strategy.

Purpose/Job Duties: The Social Media Coordinator will create content for Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube and the UL blog that informs Texas State communities, engages its audiences, and promotes UL events, resources, services, experts, and spaces.
- Create social media content as directed
- Pitch ideas for content to be created that supports the UL communications strategies and objectives including increasing followers and engagements
- Shoot and edit video content for use on UL website and social channels
- Take photos to be used on social media channels, the UL website, digital and physical signs and the UL blog
- Monitor other social media channels, share relevant content, respond to comments and inquiries as needed
- Track and record social media metrics for each platform
- Work with UL graphics coordinator to establish and adhere to university and UL branding standards
- Other support duties as assigned
General Qualifications
- Must be familiar with social media platforms and trends, and have experience engaging with audiences on various social media platforms
- Must be able to write using proper spelling, grammar and punctuation
- Must have strong editing and proofreading skills and be detail oriented
- Must have a working knowledge of how to shoot and edit video content for social media
- Must have experience working in the Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop and Premiere Pro or other video editing software
- Must be able to work on-site for 20 hours per week between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the Alkek Library in San Marcos (Note: Work hours can be flexible based on class schedule)
Preferred Qualifications
- Have experience producing social media content and imagery for an employer or organization
- Have completed coursework on social media communications
- Be familiar with MS Office and Adobe Creative Suite programs
- Familiarity with Hootsuite or other social media management tools
Start Date, Pay Rate: & Employee Evaluation: This position will begin on August 11 and continue throughout the duration of the fall semester. The hourly wage will be $10/hour. This position is anticipated to continue for each long semester (not summer). An initial evaluation of employee performance will be conducted by supervisor in December 2025 and will be used to determine if employee can continue in the role for the spring 2026 semester. A full evaluation will be conducted at the end of the spring 2026 semester to determine any change in pay rate and continuation in the position.
During the course of working with social media, the person in this position may be exposed to a variety of content outside of Texas State University’s control, including but not limited to content that could be interpreted as offensive, racist, sexist, homophobic, violent or extreme. University Libraries will work with staff to minimize the exposure to and impact of such content.
