Part-Time School Nurse (LVN)
Summary/Objective
Magellan International School has a part-time opening for a School Nurse. This positions will work at both our Preschool/Chimney Corners Campus and/or our Primary/Middle School/Bull Creek Campus. The School Nurse cares for sick and injured community members, protects student health, and promotes health education and preventive health practices.
Essential Functions
- Provides temporary and emergency care for sick and injured students.
- Serves as a health advocate for students.
- Notifies parents of accidents or illnesses and secures medical care for students in emergency cases (if parents and emergency contacts are unreachable).
- Develops and coordinates campus health education programs and provides health education to faculty and staff as needed on health related topics.
- Serves as health liaison between school, physicians, parents, and community.
- As is required of all employees, reports suspected cases of child abuse or neglect.
- Assesses student medical problems and makes appropriate referrals working with Student Support Resources (SSR), teachers, parents, and medical and health care professionals as needed.
- Communicates regularly with the Head of School, Director of Operations, and Student Support Services team regarding health-related issues.
- Reviews immunization records of students.
- Compiles and maintains all documents required by the school, including records of visits to the infirmary and updated health records for all students.
- Orders supplies and equipment needed to maintain infirmary inventory.
- Complies with policies established by federal and state laws, and the Texas Department of State Health Services.
- Reports potential health and safety hazards to the Director of Operations.
- Attends and participates in some faculty meetings and serves on committees as required.
- Participates actively in training opportunities offered by Magellan International School (MIS) to ensure continual professional growth
- Assists the Operations Team as needed, including covering at the Front Desk and helping with special events when needed.

Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited professional nursing education program
- Valid licensed vocational nurse (LVN) from the Texas Board of Nursing or a registered nurse license (RN)
- Current automatic external defibrillator (AED) and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certificates
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- 1 year of nursing experience
- Certified by Texas Department of State Health Services to conduct vision and hearing screening
Professional Skills
- Ability to use the following tools: thermometer, blood pressure cuff, audiometer, otoscope, sphygmomanometer, vision screening equipment, thermoscan, immunization monitoring software, basic clinic equipment, personal computer and copier
- Ability to identify potential student health deficits
- Ability to provide direct care utilizing professional assessment skills and the nursing process
- Ability to develop and implement individual health plans for medically fragile students

Work Environment
This job operates in an infirmary-type atmosphere, as well as a professional office environment. Employee will be exposed to bacterial and communicable diseases. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers and filing cabinets. It may require occasional travel between the Primary/Middle School campus and the Preschool campus, within a few miles of each other.
