Job Title: Volunteer Coordinator (part time)
Organization: Women's Storybook Project of Texas
Location: Based in Austin, occasional travel to program sites
Hours: Part-time, flexible hours (10-15 hours per week)
Start Date: June 2025
Compensation: Competitive, commensurate with experience
About Us:
Women’s Storybook Project of Texas (WSP) is a nonprofit organization. Our mission is connecting children with their incarcerated mothers through the joy of literature.
Position Overview:
The Part-Time Volunteer Coordinator will play a pivotal role in supporting WSP’s volunteer program by managing volunteer recruitment, training, and engagement. This individual will be responsible for maintaining effective communication with volunteers, ensuring their schedules are coordinated, and helping to ensure the success of our program activities in the Central Texas area. The Coordinator will work closely with the WSP Programs Manager and team to meet the growing needs of our volunteers and programs.
Key Responsibilities:

Volunteer Recruitment & Engagement:
- Recruit, onboard, and train volunteers to support various WSP programs in the Central Texas, Dallas and Houston areas.
- Develop and implement strategies to engage and retain volunteers for both existing and new programs.
- Maintain regular communication with volunteers, ensuring they are well-informed and supported.

Volunteer Scheduling & Support:
- Ensure that all programs have adequate volunteer support. Ability to step in as a volunteer when needed.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for volunteers, addressing questions or concerns promptly.
- Track volunteer hours and ensure accurate documentation.

Program Support & Communication:
- Assist with the administrative tasks of WSP’s volunteer programs, ensuring all activities run smoothly.
- Support the management of communication with correctional facilities, volunteers, and community partners.
- Assist in the evaluation of volunteer efforts and help plan improvements when necessary.

Event & Fundraising Support:
- Assist with organizing volunteer-related events, including appreciation activities and program-related fundraisers.
- Support WSP’s fundraising initiatives by engaging volunteers in donor outreach and event participation.
Requirements:
- Experience: Prior experience working with volunteers or in a nonprofit setting is preferred.

Skills:
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite.

Personal Qualities:
- Passion for WSP’s mission and the ability to inspire others.
- Comfortable with a variety of tasks and responsibilities in a dynamic environment.

Other Requirements:
- Must be over 18 years of age.
- A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for travel within the Austin area and nearby regions.
- Ability to enter TDCJ prisons (background check required)
- Willingness to attend prison sessions, when needed
