Lifeguard Summer 2025 - Aquatics & Safety
Texas State is seeking Lifeguards to assist the Senior Coordinator in overseeing the daily operations of the Student Recreation Center Pools. This position requires providing input on policies and procedures while ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for all patrons.
Required:
- Must hold a current American Red Cross Lifeguard certification, including CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid.
Responsibilities:
- Open and close the facility as scheduled.
- Provide exceptional customer service to all pool users.
- Supervise patrons and enforce all established policies and procedures.
- Assist with the daily maintenance and cleanliness of the Aqua Sports Center.
- Complete required reports and paperwork accurately and in a timely manner.
- Conduct manual chemical and temperature readings.
- Handle financial transactions responsibly.
- Perform cleaning and maintenance tasks weekly.
- Respond effectively to emergency situations and provide appropriate care.
- Attend bi-weekly in-service training sessions.
- Offer input on various aspects of the Aquatics and Safety Program.
- Demonstrate proficiency in victim recognition, rescue procedures, and post-incident reporting, including:
- Identifying and assisting submerged victims up to 12 feet deep and from distances of up to 100 feet.
- Executing appropriate in-water and on-land rescues.
- Conducting thorough assessments of victims to detect injuries or illnesses.
- Communicating effectively with victims, bystanders, and colleagues in emergency situations.
- Completing detailed post-accident reports.
Scheduling:
- Maintain a set schedule throughout the semester, with flexible scheduling during specific events (e.g., start of semesters, finals, holidays).
- Serve as a substitute for absent or late employees when needed.
- Communicate scheduling conflicts to the Senior Coordinator.
- Work hours range between 5:50 AM and 10:00 PM, including weekends.
- Must commit to a minimum of 10 hours per week and a maximum of 25 hours per week during academic semesters (may work up to 35 hours per week during summer and holiday breaks if no classes are in session).
Employee Evaluation Process:
- Employee performance is determined once per semester. Performance evaluations explore the following:
- Personal Training session evaluation
- Meeting Deadlines
- Meeting Attendance
- Sessions serviced / client
- 2 positive evaluations make an employee eligible for a 0.25 pay raise.
Pay-rate Determination:
- This position starts at $12.00 / hour.
- Pay-rate increases are determined by:
- Performance Evaluations / Longevity: 2 positive performance evaluations and 2 semesters worked makes an employee eligible for a $0.25 / hour pay increase.
- Additional Certifications: Additional certifications earned makes an employee eligible for a $0.25 / hour pay increase.
