Position Title: Summer Program Peer Mentor/Tutor
Organization: TRIO Programs, Texas State University
About Upward Bound: Upward Bound is a federally funded TRIO program operating under the US Department of Education. Our program aims to provide early intervention academic preparation to 62 high school students in the Del Valle area, empowering them to stay in school and become college-ready.
Job Summary: Upward Bound is seeking qualified candidates to assist with various residential duties. The program conducts a six-week residential initiative each summer, aiming to empower college-bound high school students who demonstrate the potential for success in higher education. This summer residential program integrates academic courses with social activities, trips, and other experiences, fostering holistic growth and development among participants.
Qualifications:
- Sophomore standing or above with 3.0 overall GPA.
- Academically proficient and able to tutor in English, Math, or Science required.
- Experience tutoring one of the above-named subjects preferred.
- Experience working with high school students preferred.
Responsibilities:
- Must be available to work Monday - Thursday evenings from 6-10 pm.
- Tutor and assist students with daily homework and assignments.
- Assist instructors with follow-up.
- Assist other staff in the effective operation of the residence hall while maintaining a safe environment that is conducive to living and learning.
- Serve as a role model and mentor to student participants.
- Assist with the development and facilitation of programs and recreation designed to help students grow and mature.
- Others as assigned by the Upward Bound staff.

- Demonstrated motivational and organizational skills.
Terms/Conditions of Employment:
- Salary: $10.00/hr.
- Training Time Commitment: May 26th – May 30th, 2025
- Time Commitment: June 1st – July 11th, 2025
