Tutors for Business, Information System Courses, Criminal Justice, Marketing and Economics ONLY.
This is a grant funded position. Continuation of this position is contingent upon grant funding.
Reports to the Director of the Student Support Services Traditional Program.
The tutor is responsible for ensuring tutoring services are administered in accordance with the requirements of the Student Support Services Traditional Program.Â
Evening and weekend work may be required.
Tutors are hired based on current student needs.
Duties:
- Provide in-person and virtual tutoring sessions to enhance academic skills.
- Track participants' GPA and academic progress, addressing any challenges or areas needing improvement.
- Tutor specific academic subjects to individuals or small groups, applying effective study methods to boost understanding and confidence.
- Maintain detailed records of tutoring sessions, including topics covered, progress, and feedback, while ensuring accurate documentation.
- Offer mentoring to support academic and personal growth, maintaining a supportive and confidential environment.
- Coordinate with relevant support staff, share insights with team members, and continuously assess and improve tutoring strategies based on participant feedback.
Required Qualifications:
- Currently Texas State undergraduate or Texas State graduate student with a minimum of 1 semester of informal or formal student tutoring.
- Attendance at Texas State University for at least one long semester.
- Completed at least 30 credit hours with an overall GPA of 3.0.
- Must have earned minimum of a B in courses tutoring will be provided for.
- Tutor specifically in Business, Information System Courses, Criminal Justice, Marketing and Economics.
Must have earned minimum of a B in courses tutoring will be provided for.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 1-2 years of experience tutoring on a variety of subjects.
- Attendance at Texas State University for at least one long semester is preferred.
- Experience communicating complicated thoughts and ideas in terms that students can understand.
- Strong understanding of gateway coursework, focused on Math (Algebra, Calculus), Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics), and English.
- Demonstrated ability to serve as facilitators of positive social interaction, engaging students and encouraging their participation in the tutoring process.
Employee Evaluation Process:
- Weekly and monthly (informal)
- End of each Semester (formal) facilitated by Program Director.
Pay Rate Determination:
- The pay rate is determined by the institution’s pay rate for graduate student pay and is evaluated on an annual basis. University Pay Plan : Office of Human Resources : Texas State University (txst.edu)
- This is a grant-funded position, and as such not subject to annual increases in salary.
