Job Summary: The student worker will play a crucial role in supporting the daily operations and training activities within our facility. Under the guidance of our experienced makerspace staff, you will receive comprehensive training and hands-on opportunities in equipment operation and safety procedures. By leveraging technical skills and attention to detail, a successful candidate will demonstrate growing proficiency in equipment operation, contribute to maintaining a safe working environment, and assist fellow students in their fabrication projects.
Responsibilities:
•Provide front desk support and manage daily operations of the makerspace
•Conduct training sessions for students on various equipment, including ULS lasers and 3D printers
•Assist users with equipment operation and troubleshooting
•Maintain equipment and ensure proper safety protocols are followed
•Monitor and maintain inventory of materials and supplies
•Document equipment usage and maintenance records
•Participate in regular staff meetings and safety workshops
Qualifications:
•Punctuality and a strong work ethic are essential
•Experience with ULS lasers and 3D printers is a plus but not necessary
•Strong communication and interpersonal skills
•Excellent attention to detail and safety consciousness

Work Schedule: The students in this position are expected to work 5+ hours per week and must be available to work on Fridays.
Employee Evaluation Process:
Interview selection and decisions will be communicated to applicants through Handshake.
Timeline:
1. Review Submissions: All submissions will be reviewed by Jan. 16.
2. Initial Interviews: Schedule interviews continuously as applications come in.
3. Final Decision: Make the final decision by Jan. 20.
Post-Hiring:
- Supervisor will hold bi-weekly review meetings to assess student performance.
- Detailed evaluations will be conducted at the end of each long semester.
Pay Rate Determination: The starting pay rate is $9/hr., based on relevant skills and experience with makerspace equipment. Increases may occur based on performance or a positive evaluation after one semester.
