Job Description
The North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) is a voluntary association of, by, and for local governments and was established to assist local governments in planning for common needs, cooperating for mutual benefit, and coordinating for sound regional development.
NCTCOG’s purpose is to strengthen both the individual and collective power of local governments and to help them recognize regional opportunities, eliminate unnecessary duplication, and make joint decisions. NCTCOG is located in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
The Department of Environment and Development is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Intern who will work closely with our team on various projects and programs aimed at enhancing the quality of life in North Central Texas. This position will support department programs on the following topics: solid waste, wastewater education, water quality resources, stormwater management (quality and quantity), public works, and/or planning for growth that promotes quality of life improvement initiatives. The Intern position also provides administrative support to the department’s planning staff to facilitate department coordination, communication, and outreach efforts with NCTCOG’s member governments. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Assisting in the redevelopment of the Report DFW Dumping website
- Providing administrative support during the FY2026-2027 solid waste pass-through grants Call for Projects
- Assisting in the redevelopment of the Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) Implementation Plan Strategies
- Providing administrative support for committees and meetings
- Coordinating and attending meetings
- Documenting meetings through note taking and producing meeting summaries
- Reviewing and revising documents
- Creating and managing databases
- Reviewing and updating website content
- Collecting and analyzing environmental, developmental, energy, and demographic data
- Compiling and summarizing studies
- Writing reports and compiling documents for publishing
- Preparing public outreach and education materials, presentations, and supporting external meetings

Required Education & Experience:
- Candidates must be attending an accredited college or university in a degree seeking program during employment.
Compensation:
- FLSA: Non-Exempt
- Starting Salary: $14.11/hour - $16/hour
- The desired weekly hours for this position are up to 29 hours and the ideal candidate would be able to work for a period of up to one year or more while attending school.
Officing:
- This position offers a hybrid work option. Candidates must be able to work at the NCTCOG Offices in Arlington, Texas.
