Work Study Student Administrative Assistant - Texas Stream Team (Spring 2025)
Job Description
The Meadows Center for Water and the Environment is looking for a skilled and reliable individual to fill an entry level student administrative position within our Watershed Services division. The selected applicant will assist with project management and organization, education and outreach, and the Texas Stream Team statewide community scientist water quality monitoring program (funded by the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality).
This position has the opportunity to assist with:
- Volunteer monitoring coordination, correspondence, and support;
- Basic tasks for sustaining program operations and water quality equipment;
- Project management contract administration needs;
- Program development, organization, and documentation; and much more.
The Texas Stream Team Student Administrative Assistant will come away from their experience with a greater understanding of how essential task management is for the success of a statewide program funded by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
Specific Responsibilities
The below includes detailed job responsibilities:
- Assist with tracking various contract activities such as fulfilling contract deliverables, contract reporting, grant applications, tracking in-kind match, etc.
- Assist with training preparation and communications, including equipment preparation, RSVP tracking, and sending out reminder and follow-up emails.
- Assist with processing training documents and compiling metrics for monthly reports.
- Assist with inventory and fulfilling supply requests, as needed.
- Assist with tracking outreach requests, representing Texas Stream Team at educational events (as needed), email correspondence, website upkeep, and quarterly newsletters.
- Assist with community scientist recognition activities, including the annual Golden Secchi Award, giveaways, and other special engagement activities.
- Assist with preparing documentation for travel reimbursements for Watershed Services staff.
- Assist with management of Watershed Services’ fleet vehicle via data entry and expense tracking.
- Assist with fulfilling online store orders and tracking store inventory.
- Assist staff with watershed project needs, including with desktop research to field work opportunities that may arise, including the Clean Rivers Program state water quality monitoring field work.
- Compiling information as requested.
- All other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Required Qualifications:
- Must be able to work for at least two semesters
- Must be extremely organized and have excellent attention to detail
- Must be dependable and able to self-motivate
- Must have superior interpersonal skills and the ability to work as a member of a team
- Ability to complete assigned tasks and follow written or verbal instructions
- Ability to work independently on assigned tasks
- Experience and skilled in Microsoft software (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Must be comfortable working on and around water
- Able to work occasionally on the weekends
Preferred Qualifications:
Although not required, applicants with the below experience will be favored.
- Able to work one-two years (if funding allows).
- Texas Stream Team community scientist.
- Experience with Microsoft Teams and Microsoft SharePoint Office.
- Skilled in effective verbal and written communication
- Skilled in managing several projects simultaneously.

Schedule
Applicants must be available during office business hours: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Monday – Friday. Occasional work on the weekends may be required.

Employee Evaluation Process
Student employees are evaluated by their supervisor at the end of each long semester.
Payrate Determination
All student employees begin at the starting pay rate and may increase by $1.00 after two long semesters (fall and spring) of employment with a positive evaluation form from their supervisor using the Student Employee Career Readiness Evaluation form.
