Advancement Intern
The Phillips Collection's Internship program is open to full-time undergraduate students, full-time graduate students, and recent graduates. The purpose of the internship program is to offer college students and recent graduates meaningful work, educational experiences, and real-life practice in their fields of academic study and/or interest.
The Advancement Department manages a robust philanthropy program that creates meaningful experiences for members and donors while raising funds to sustain core museum activities including special exhibitions, education, and community engagement programs, DEAI initiatives, conservation projects, capital needs, and more. The department is responsible for fundraising approximately 60% of the museum’s annual operating budget by identifying, securing, and stewarding financial support from individuals (trustees, major donors, and members), institutions (foundations, government agencies, and corporations), and special events, including exhibition openings and the annual gala.
The Advancement Department is seeking someone who is interested in gaining knowledge about the nonprofit fundraising process in the arts & culture and/or museum fields. Under the direction of the Director of Major and Planned Giving, you will primarily work with the Major and Planned Giving team to accelerate projects related to both avenues of Individual Giving. However, you will also have opportunities to connect with the entire Advancement Department to learn different aspects of fundraising and donor relations. You will better understand a museum’s fundraising activities, communications, relations with internal departments, and trends in arts philanthropy, among other areas.
Duration: Internships run ten to fifteen continuous weeks and 12-20 hours per week. Internship length and schedule may vary depending on the needs of the department and the intern’s availability. This internship will run from January 27 – May 2, 2025. Some evening work may be required.
Academic Credit: Depending on the nature of the internship and approval of the student's college or university, academic credit may be granted for internships. Student applicants should consult their academic advisor for additional information.
Please submit a résumé, letter of interest, letter of recommendation, and complete transcripts.
