JOB DESCRIPTION

The LBJ Student Center Technical Services Student AV Technicians are vital members of the Event Services team. They are responsible for the operation and maintenance of the audiovisual equipment for events managed by Event Services (both in the LBJ Student Center and at other indoor and outdoor locations).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

AV Technicians report directly to the Technical Services Coordinator, but will also work with student Building Managers and Setup Crew, as well as full-time staff within the Event Services team. Duties include assisting clients with basic AV in meeting rooms, serving as a dedicated technician managing live sound and/or video during events, and assisting with the organization and upkeep of AV inventory and systems. AV Technicians may at times be the only Technical Services staff on duty, but work in a team environment alongside Building Managers and Setup Crew.

This position will have varied work hours, ranging from 12-20 hours per week, depending on the density of events and other aspects of a given week.

MINIMUM SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current Texas State University student
  • Ability to work autonomously and in team settings
  • Must be able to lift up to 30lbs
  • Previous experience (work, academic, or extracurricular) with live event production preferred but not required.
  • Previous experience (work, academic, or extracurricular) with audiovisual equipment preferred but not required.
  • Works well under pressure
  • Comfortable addressing clients in stressful situations

STARTING PAYRATE

The starting payrate for this position is $11 per hour. ($14 per hour for special assignments.)

EMPLOYEE EVALUATION PROCESS

Student employees are evaluated by their supervisor at the end of each long semester (fall/spring). They are also evaluated at the end of summer if they were employed both Summer I and II sessions.

PAYRATE DETERMINATION

All student employees begin at the starting pay rate for their job title and may increase by .50 after each long semester of employment with a “meets” or “exceeds” expectations overall evaluation from their supervisor using the LBJSC Student Employee Performance Review form.
