Mission and Goal

The mission of the College of Science and Engineering Undergraduate Advising Center is to provide accurate, friendly, and consistent academic services to our majors and minors within the areas of Biology, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Engineering Technology, Mathematics, and Physics.

We have one goal in mind: we want to help you become a successful Texas State student!

Daily Tasks and Expectations

Student employees will prioritize the following as part of normal office routines:

  • Welcome students to the center and ensure they are in the correct location or schedule/refer them as necessary
  • Answer incoming calls and schedule/refer the caller as necessary

Additionally, each student employee should complete the following tasks at the start of every shift,

or check in with other staff members to ensure they are complete:

  1. Check appointments for accuracy for the current day and two days in advance via the SARS scheduling system
  2. Add No-Show alerts for the current day and previous day
  3. Sort, index, and verify student documents and advisor communications in a virtual filing system.

Student employees are expected to arrive on time for their shift and dress in a manner appropriate for a casual/business casual office setting.

Required Qualifications and Documents

  • Maintain enrollment in at least 6 semester credit hours
  • Receive a work-study award
  • Interact in a courteous and professional manner on the phone, in person, and via email
  • Prioritize tasks appropriately, shifting focus as needed
  • Manage time to ensure task completion and office coverage for assigned shifts
  • Demonstrate initiative to learn and invest in the position
