Student Research Assistant

The Meadows Center for Water and the Environment is seeking to fill a student Research Assistant position within our Watershed Services division. The selected applicant will assist with project and grant management, research (data entry, transcribing, and some descriptive statistics), and program organization and development. The selected applicant will specifically assist in the execution of the Clean Coast Texas program, funded through Coastal Management Program funds distributed by the Texas General Land Office (GLO), and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

The pay for this position starts at $14 per hour.

Specific Responsibilities

The below includes detailed job responsibilities:

  • Assist with grant management needs: fulfilling contract deliverables, contract reporting, grant applications, etc.
  • Assist with stakeholder engagement and outreach needs: email correspondence, and creation and reviewing of materials
  • Basic tasks to sustain program operations and organization such as creating and updating records, scanning, filing, and sorting
  • Compiling, synthesizing, and presenting information as needed
  • All other duties as assigned by supervisor

Required Qualifications

The below are required qualifications needed to be considered for this position:

  • Must be extremely organized and have excellent attention to detail
  • Must be dependable and able to self-motivate
  • Must have superior interpersonal skills and the ability to work as a member of a team
  • Must have exceptional technical writing skills
  • Ability to complete assigned tasks and follow written or verbal instructions
  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks
  • Experienced and skilled in Microsoft software (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Must be comfortable working on or around water

Preferred Qualifications

The below are preferred qualifications. Although not required, applicants with the below experience will receive higher consideration:

  • Are classified as a junior, senior, or graduate student
  • Able to work through the summer with the potential extension to one - two years (as funding allows)
  • Experience with Microsoft Teams and Microsoft SharePoint Office
  • Skilled in ESRI Software (ArcPro, ArcOnline, Survey123, StoryMaps)
  • Skilled in effective verbal and written communication
  • Skilled in managing several projects simultaneously

Schedule

Applicants must have availability during the times of 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Monday – Friday. This is a part-time position.
