Museum Experience Lead

At the Thinkery Meredith Learning Lab located in Mueller, we proudly offer innovative, interactive museum exhibits and activities and early childhood education through our Little Thinkers Preschool, and led by our STEAM Learning Institute, we provide research-backed, community-based professional development programs and trainings for educators - all cultivating a love of learning and encouraging exploration and understanding of the many facets of STEAM and its ability to inspire confident, creative thinkers. 

ABOUT THE POSITION

 The Museum Experience Lead works to create engaging, playful experiences. The role supports the museum’s daily operations to ensure they are safe, efficient, and effective. In addition, Leads facilitate educational experiences designed to inspire an interest in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) through a variety of gallery activations and programs within and outside of the museum. Leads deliver the museum’s mission through mentorship and direct and playful interaction with guests and staff that inspires a joy of learning.  The Museum Experience Lead also ensures the maintenance of the safety and cleanliness of the Museum galleries by practicing Thinkery’s health and safety protocols. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Engage in and promote excellent customer service to create a safe and fun experience. Address and solve guest issues and incidents.
  • Lead museum operations including:
    • Gallery Opening and Closing procedures.
    • Reconcile and process monetary transactions.
    • Monitor and maintain a safe and clean environment.
    • Actively practice and implement museum policies; and
    • Restock and inventory supplies, tools and equipment
  • Facilitate inquiry-based STEAM education activities for children and their caregivers experiences including
    • Makerspace Activities, Birthday Parties, Storytime, Field Trips, engagement with learners in Thinkery’s Little Thinkers Preschool, and community engagement on and off-site. Training provided.
  • Assists with recruitment, training, and on-going feedback and professional development to Museum Experience staff.
  • Act as a mentor for Museum Experience Staff, Youth Development programs and Volunteers.
  • Generate and iterate ideas for STEAM educational content
  • Oversee Front of House for Museum,
    • Including: Admissions, line management, chalkboard, announcements, and Store
  • Fulfill cross functional roles to support museum operations and personal growth.
  • Actively practice Thinkery’s health and safety protocols which adhere to local, state, and federal guidelines to minimize the spread of COVID-19.
  • Support a culture of cross-organization communication, collaboration and information sharing.

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Background in science, technology, engineering, art, and math
  • 1+ year experience teaching or facilitating programs for children
  • Spanish/English Bilingual preferred
  • 1+ year supervisory experience
  • Experience with working with CRM and Point of Sale software. Knowledge of Tessitura a plus
  • Schedule and availability reflects that the organization is a 7-day-a-week operation.  Staff are expected to work weekends and holidays.  Periodic duties outside of/in excess of regular work week schedule during seasonal high-volume times.
    • Typical schedule is either Sunday-Thursday or Tuesday through Saturday, following museum hours
  • Experience working with children ages 3-12 and their caregivers.
  • Strong interest in STEAM education is required. Any combination may include the following: science, technology, engineering, art, and math.

This position is active.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to:

  • Observe and respond to the needs of guests, staff, and community partners.
  • Move throughout the museum
  • Manipulate and move exhibit components weighing up to 25 pounds, including those that may be low to the ground or above eye level
  • Clean and disinfect surfaces a variety of surfaces and props of various sizes at various heights.
  • Communicate and exchange accurate information with guests, staff, and community partners in a variety of formats including in-person, electronically, and over the phone. 
  • Detect and respond to safety hazards
  • Work in outdoor environments
  • Use cash register, standard office equipment, and computers efficiently and accurately
