IT GIS ANALYST INTERN (PT.)7032250 - 23002497

Brief Description:

Assists and supports the Dallas County GIS Enterprise components and applications. 

Detailed Description:

  • Performs quality control of GIS data, including review of data for completeness and accuracy, data scrubbing, and identifying and correcting errors or omissions in the data. 
  • Works with ESRI GIS software including but not limited to ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, Portal, AGOL, and Field Maps. 
  • Works on a wide range of projects and tasks and assists with field research, data collection and editing, data analysis, graphics, maps and data presentation, and report development. 
  • Creates clear and sharp thematic maps used in presentations and reports.
  • Proposes new mapping and analysis techniques to process and visualize data more efficiently. 
  • Documents sources and process of data acquisition for each city or county jurisdiction. 
  • Supports mapping requests from First-Responders, Sheriffs, Health Services, Homeland Security, Emergency Management, County Commissioners, and the Public. 
  • Integrates complex data models and formats from multiple sources, including spatial and non-spatial data. 
  • Designs, tests, and implements solutions. 
  • May conduct field work via GPS or aerial maps to support point addresses, street centerlines, municipal boundaries, and other GIS data. 
  • Provides explanation of technical matters to individuals with little or no background in the area under discussion and assists users with problem resolution. 
  • Gathers and documents client requirements for data such as transformation, reporting, and visualization to develop detailed processes and products. 
  • Trains staff members in the use of technologies. 
  • Works with departmental staff to identify potential synergies and opportunities to improve processes with GIS technologies. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

Job Requirements: 

  • Education/Experience: A college student (Sophomore, Junior or Senior) currently working towards a Bachelor of Science degree in GIS, Geospatial Technology, Information Technology or related field who has completed the base level GIS computer courses. 
  • Experience includes intermediate computer/technical skills in Microsoft products and ESRI ArcGIS software suite. 
  • Experience using ArcGIS databases, mapping, and ability to build tools, and manipulate datasets using Python or SQL. 
  • Knowledge of GIS concepts, and data editing best practices, and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of geospatial analytics tools. 
  • Knowledge of ESRI web applications. 
  • Working knowledge of Excel, shapefiles, and geodatabases. 
  • Ability to communicate professionally verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to be organized and detail oriented. 
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and in making decisions.
  • Ability to follow standard operating procedures. 
  • Ability to work independently and with a team. 
  • Ability to meet project deadlines. 
  • Strong PC skills. 
  • Ability to analyze, problem solve, and creatively develop solutions for geodata-oriented problems. 
  • “Individuals holding or considered for a position which has, or may have, access to criminal justice databases including the FBI Criminal Justice Information Systems, NCIC/TCIC and similar databases, must pass a national fingerprint-based records check prior to placement in such position and may be denied placement in such positions and/or access to such systems. 
  • Incumbents must also maintain the ability to pass the records check while in the position or until such time that the Commissioners Court and the County Civil Service Commission deem this position no longer has this requirement.” 
  • Must have a valid Texas Driver’s License and good driving record. 
  • Will be required to provide a copy of 10-year driving history. 
  • Must maintain a good driving record and remain in compliance with Article II, Subdivision II of Chapter 90 of the Dallas County Code. 
  • Standard office environment.
