TRIO Talent Search Advisor

North Central Texas College is accepting applications for TRIO Talent Search Advisor: Full-Time: Full Benefits: Corinth Campus: $48,752

 

Summary

The purpose of this position is to advise and motivate students by providing personalized career, education, and financial assistance to low-income, and first-generation high school students in order to prepare them for postsecondary education. Assist program participants with information and guidance in the admission and enrollment process for their college/s of choice.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Inform, identify and recruit participants by developing and distributing program informational materials through print and digital media to inform the community and target areas about program benefits and services.
  • Reviews and evaluates student applications to determine student eligibility and identify personal needs.
  • Create and plan presentations, workshops, and individual sessions to deliver permissible services.
  • Provide direct services to students, provide guidance and resources in the areas of academic success, financial literacy, postsecondary enrollment, career services and other permissible services.
  • Monitor student academic progress in accordance with program requirements and regulations
  • Prepares seniors for graduation, admissions and enrollment at the postsecondary institutions through individualized advising, group campus tours, and workshops to facilitate transition from one level of education to another.
  • Track graduating seniors.
  • Document participant contacts in program database in preparation of Annual Performance Reports.
  • Assess and evaluate program events, workshops and services.
  • Update and maintain program website and social media platforms through content creators and learning management systems to inform program participants of activities and events.
  • Coordinate cultural and college trips for students in order to expose students to postsecondary institutions and activities that they wouldn’t otherwise have access to.
  • Hiring and supervision of part time employees.
  • Other duties as assigned. Responsibilities and duties may change based on the need of the department and institution.

 

 

Required Education:

Bachelor’s degree.

 

Required Experience:

1 year of appropriate and relevant professional experience working for a TRIO federal program or similar related program/project serving low-income and potential first-generation college students (grades 6-12)

 

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, virtual learning systems, and database management
  • Knowledge of grant policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of transfer information and graduation requirements for post-secondary institutions
  • Knowledge of “college ready” metrics to establish academic needs
  • Knowledge of institutional procedures regarding student advising
  • Knowledge of financial aid processes and financial literacy resources
  • Knowledge of community resources
  • Knowledge of academic and personal growth resources
  • Knowledge for developing program evaluations and assessments
  • Proficient in verbal and oral communication
