Education Bachelor's degree in Forestry, Natural Resources, Geospatial Science, or related field
Requirements:
Experience: Minimum 2 years previous GIS and related field experience required
Other Requirements:
- Organized, detailed-oriented, self-starter with ability to work with minimal supervision
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Computer proficiency to include Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, etc.
- Knowledge of ESRI GIS software, geodatabases, raster, and vector data formats
- Knowledge of GPS application, data transfer and experience with field data recorders
- Some overnight travel (10%) may be required
- Ability to obtain a valid Texas class C driver license
Job Description:
Acorn Forestry is a full-service forest management consultant and service provider, staffed by professional foresters and wildlife biologists, actively working in all the Western Gulf States. We serve a full range of industrial, institutional, and private landowners, consultants, and forest products corporations with an emphasis on professionalism, quality, and accountability. As a GIS forester with Acorn, you will be responsible for generating, editing, and delivering map products, ensuring the quality and accuracy of geographic information, and adapting spatial products to a range of forest management activities. Field work such as mapping, supervision of field personnel, and operational support may be required. Additionally, you will be responsible for creating timber management plans, timber sale contracts, monitoring sale documentation, reconciling timber sale settlements and the distribution of funds to landowners.
Work Environment:
This is a 90% office, 10% field position. Field activities may be physically demanding and are often conducted in harsh environmental conditions including temperature extremes, smoke, dust, swamps, insects, snakes, rough topography, and brush.
