Intern-Engineering-Applications (R1690-23, Austin)

Microchip Technology Inc. has an Intern-Engineering (Applications) opening based in Austin, TX. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting application engineering support activities in the application lab, including but not limited to power semiconductor device characterization, power converter buildup and testing, testing data collection and processing, and test setup automation design.

Responsibilities:
  • Candidates should be able to work independently on power device and gate driver characterization tests, including but not limited to:
  • Power device switching performance tests.
  • Short circuit and avalanche tests
  • Gate driver performance tests
  • Converter performance tests
  • Candidates should be able to build up power device testing and evaluation boards from the ground up - circuit schematic/pcb layout reading and mechanical assembly.
  • Candidates should be able to identify abnormalities in test results and solve issues with the support from design engineers.
  • Candidates should be able to process raw test data to create test reports with valid test results and support different test requests.

Requirements/Qualifications:
  • Currently enrolled in a four-year engineering program such as Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science with at least a Junior class standing, and have career interest in the semiconductor industry.
  • High voltage system design and/or semiconductor testing experience.
  • Proficient in soldering, electrical testing, circuit debugging, etc.
  • Familiarity with Matlab, SPICE simulation and other lab use software.
  • Ability to use Microsoft word/excel for reporting.
  • Effective communicator, verbal and written.
  • Team player, but also able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Power semiconductor characterization experience.
  • Power converter buildup experience.
