Co-Op, Firmware Engineering

We are seeking highly motivated university students to learn and contribute hands-on with our Power and Performance team for a 4 month Fall 2022 Co-Op. Current student pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field and graduating December 2022 and beyond are encouraged to apply.

What is the RAMP Program? The RAMP Program is supplemental to your day-to-day internship responsibilities. In this program, you will gain deeper exposure to Western Digital’s culture and the different parts of the organization. RAMP Program elements include:

Job Description:
  • Responsible for the design, development, and support of new or existing HDD Firmware features dealing with command execution, cache optimization, CPU usage, servo/ mechanical interactions, etc.
  • Design, implement, validate, and maintain firmware components to support products using best-practice development methodologies
  • Design and develop test cases for firmware features being implemented
  • Participate in design meetings, test planning sessions, and code reviews.
  • Collaborate with internal and cross-functional teams to derive innovative quality firmware solutions

Minimum educational requirements
  • Working towards BS in related field (CS, CE, CSE, EE)

Required:
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong technical skills in area of study
  • Interest in HDD, flash, semiconductor, components, nonvolatile memory industry
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications 
  • Interest in data analysis
  • Object-oriented programming (OOP; C++ or Java, for example)
  • Experience with algorithms and data structures
