Habitat Field Crew Student Employees | Spring 2022 Work Study
Work Study Positions
Student workers will primarily be assisting with habitat restoration efforts in the San Marcos river in compliance with the Edwards Aquifer Habitat Conservation Plan ( http://www.eahcp.org/ ). There may also be opportunities to assist with our UAV flight operations and post-processing of imagery, or to help work on extra projects unrelated to the San Marcos HCP. These various projects are highly team-oriented, thus any potential candidates most be able to work in both large or small groups while effectively completing tasks associated with each.
Duties include but are not limited to:
-removal of submersed non-native aquatic vegetation
-expanding/planting native aquatic vegetation in the river
-collection and propagation of native plants in our aquatic nursery
-removal of floating vegetation mats

Requirements:
Must be able to swim
Must be comfortable working in water for long periods of time in variable weather
Able to stay on task while working in a group or independently
Capable of repeatedly lifting 50lbs
Work in a variety of outdoor environmental conditions
Preferred Qualifications:
SCUBA certified
Knowledge of local aquatic flora
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and ArcMap
Wildlife, Aquatic, Biology and Natural Resource Majors preferred
Scheduled Hours:
Spring and Fall Semester
AM shift operates from 8AM-12PM
PM shift operates from 12PM-4PM
Summer Semester
AM shift operates from 7AM-1PM
No PM shift
Weekly student-schedules are limited to a maximum of 25hrs/week during the long semester and when taking summer classes.
