Part-Time Low-Voltage Cabling Technician

About Gardient

Gardient is an Austin-based physical security and technology integrator. We design and install video surveillance, access control, structured cabling and AV systems for commercial clients across Central Texas. We're a small, hands-on team, and the work you do shows up on real job sites every week.

The role

We're hiring a part-time Low-Voltage Cabling Technician in Austin to pull, terminate, test and label Cat6/Cat6A and related cabling on commercial and residential projects. Expect 15-30 hours a week, scheduled around project needs, mostly Monday-Friday daytime. The right person can grow into camera and access control installs.

What you'll do

  • Pull Cat6/Cat6A, fiber and low-voltage cable through ceilings, walls, conduit and J-hooks
  • Terminate jacks, patch panels and RJ45 ends to TIA-568 standards
  • Test and certify runs, then label and document per drawings
  • Mount and dress racks, ladder rack and cable management
  • Rough-in and pre-wire for cameras, access control and AV
  • Keep job sites clean, safe and organized, and report progress to the project lead

Required

  • 1+ year of hands-on trade work: low-voltage cabling, electrical (apprentice or helper), construction, carpentry, drywall, HVAC or similar. Cabling experience is a plus; we'll teach the rest
  • Comfortable working on ladders and lifts; able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Reliable transportation, a valid Texas driver's license and a clean driving record
  • Skilled and safe with hand and power tools (drill/driver, hole saws, oscillating tool); own basic hand tools. Gardient provides cabling tools and testers
  • Able to pass a background check and fingerprinting

Nice to have

  • Texas DPS Private Security registration (alarm or access control installer), or willingness to get it
  • BICSI Installer or manufacturer cabling certification
  • Fiber termination and testing experience (Fluke or similar)
  • Experience with IP cameras, access control or AV systems

Pay and schedule

  • Pay: $18-$28 per hour, based on experience and certifications
  • Hours: 15-30 per week, part-time W-2
  • Schedule: daytime, mostly Monday-Friday; occasional after-hours work for occupied sites
  • Extras: mileage reimbursement for job-site travel, paid training and certification toward Texas DPS registration

How to apply

Apply through Handshake with your resume or a short note on your trade experience and the tools you've used. Include your weekly availability. Photos of past work are a plus.
