Position Title: Visitor Experience & Volunteer Assistant
Position Type: Part time
Hours: 12 hours/week, Saturdays (3.5 hours) and Sundays (5 hours) with one shift on a weekday.
Reports to: Visitor Experience & Volunteer Manager, Rachel Ditzig
Supervises: No direct staff reports but may supervise volunteers or interns.
Compensation: $20 per hour
Benefits: Part Time employees do not qualify for paid time off. This role qualifies for an optional 401k with 4% employer match, and Teladoc Plus + Mental Health, which allows employees to connect on the phone, Teladoc app, or on a video call with a physician who can diagnose, treat, and write a prescription 24/7/365. Most Teladoc calls have no copay, as well as mental health visits with a $0 copay. Benefits may not be declined in lieu of any other form of compensation.

Description: The Visitor Experience & Volunteer Assistant will play a key role in ensuring a welcoming and engaging environment for all guests. They will assist the Visitor Experience & Volunteer Manager in curatingmaterials and resources to enhance the visitor experience, while also assisting with the volunteer pool. This role is ideal for individuals interested in museum and nonprofit operations, art history, and hospitality.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the Vis/Vol Manager with tasks related to the front of house strategy.
- Assist the Vis/Vol Manager with volunteer coordination, training, appreciation, and retention.
- Develop educational content for the UMLAUF’s digital guide (ex: audio tour content, compare/contrast prompts, expanded written texts, etc.).
- Design museum signage and educational material.
- Operate the front desk to make admission and gift shop sales.
- Greet and assist visitors, providing information about exhibitions, events, and museum amenities.
- Maintain a tidy and clean front desk and gallery.
- Log and analyze data, including visitor demographics and surveys.
- Assist staff at public programing.
- Assist UMLAUF staff as needed with various admin tasks.
Required Availability:
- One 3.5-hour weekday (Tuesday-Friday) shift per week during the hours of 9AM-5PM
- One 3.5-hour Saturday shift per week during the hours of 11AM-4PM
- One 5-hour Sunday shift per week 11AM-4PM
- Example schedule: Friday 10AM-1:30PM, Saturday 11AM-2:30PM, Sunday 11AM-4PM
Required Qualifications:
- Excellent communication skills.
- Strong writing and critical thinking skills.
- Organized and punctual.
- Friendly demeanor and positive attitude (a ‘people person’).
- Enthusiasm to learn.
- Ability to collaborative across departments and levels of leadership.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Customer service experience.
- Interest in art.
- Experience in Canva and Microsoft Suite.
- A degree, or currently pursuing a degree, in a related field.
