Fall 2026 | Student Graphic Designer

Job description: 

Student Involvement and Engagement (SI&E) is seeking an intermediate skilled Student Graphic Designer. The Graphic Designer is responsible for creating engaging visual content that promotes student involvement opportunities, campus events, leadership programs, traditions, and departmental initiatives. This position supports the development of print and digital materials that strengthen student engagement and enhance the university experience. 

 

This intermediate-level student position is ideal for a student who has a strong foundational understanding of graphic design principles and seeks to further develop professional design, branding, and communication skills within a fast-paced higher education environment. 

 

This position works on the San Marcos campus in the LBJ Student Center. 

 

Responsibilities: 

Graphic Design & Content Creation 

Design promotional materials for campus events, programs, services, and initiatives, including social media graphics, digital signage, flyers and posters, banners and displays, presentation materials, merchandise and promotional items; and web and email graphics. 

Develop creative concepts that align with departmental goals and university branding standards. 

Create visually compelling content that appeals to student audiences. 

Assist with photography editing, image selection, and basic illustration projects as needed. 

Brand Management 

Ensure all designs adhere to university brand guidelines and accessibility standards. 

Maintain consistency in visual identity across departmental communications. 

Support the development of templates and design assets for recurring programs and campaigns. 

Collaboration & Project Management 

Work collaboratively with professional staff, student leaders, campus partners, and marketing team members. 

Participate in project planning meetings and contribute creative ideas. 

Manage multiple design projects simultaneously while meeting established deadlines. 

Respond to feedback and make revisions in a timely and professional manner. 

Student Engagement Marketing 

Support marketing campaigns that increase student awareness and participation in campus programs and events. 

Assist in developing visual storytelling strategies that highlight student experiences and involvement opportunities. 

Contribute to the creation of content for social media platforms and digital engagement efforts. 

Work between 12-15 hours per week from Monday to Friday and between 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM; occasional weeknights and weekends.  

 

Qualifications: 

Currently enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student at Texas State University.  

Must have and maintain a 2.5 Grade Point Average (GPA) Semester and Overall. 

Intermediate proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, Photoshop, and/or InDesign). 

Knowledge of design principles including typography, layout and composition, color theory, and visual hierarchy. 

Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.  

Ability to work independently and collaboratively.  

Ability to think creatively and outside of the box to present fresh and enticing design concepts. 

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.  

Ability to manage and meet multiple deadlines in a dynamic environment. 

Storytelling skills that can be used to develop content.  

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.  

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

Communications design major. 

Completion of introductory coursework in graphic design, visual communication, marketing, or a related field.  

One or more years of graphic design experience through employment, internships, student organizations, freelance work, or academic projects. 

Experience creating content for social media platforms. 

Knowledge of photography and photo editing. 

Familiarity with video graphics or motion design software such as Adobe After Effects or Premiere Pro. 

Understanding of accessible and inclusive design practices. 

Experience working in higher education, student affairs, or campus engagement setting. 

Experience with project management platforms (i.e., Monday.com).
