Performance Poet
Are you a natural performer who shines in the spotlight? Do you possess a vintage aesthetic and a sharp, witty mind?
We are seeking dynamic, magnetic individuals to join our team as Performance Poets. This isn't just a writing gig—it is part creative act, part improvisational theater, and part human connection. You will be the featured performer at corporate, private, and public events, crafting custom on-demand haiku for guests on a manual typewriter.
Note: You do not need to be a professional poet, but you must be a performative artist who can engage a crowd.
The Role & Responsibilities
- Performative Writing: Create custom haiku for guests in real-time using your own manual typewriter.
- High-Level Engagement: Interact with guests in a charming, witty, and empathetic manner, often in loud or high-traffic environments.
- Event Logistics: Arrive on time, check in with hosts, set up your designated spot, and ensure your table remains clean and professional.
- Documentation: Take photos of every haiku created and upload them to the team album post-event.
- Brand Ambassadorship: Represent our brand with a polished, visually compelling personal style and high energy.
Who You Are (The "Ideal Poet" Profile)
- A Natural Shine: You are memorable—not necessarily because you’re loud, but because you have a "spark" and thrive being the center of attention.
- The "Side-Hustler": This is a gig-based role. We are looking for people who have other careers or creative projects and do not rely on this as their sole source of income.
- Backgrounds that Excel: We love candidates with experience in hospitality (waiter/bartender), education, law, sales, marketing, or the performing arts.
- Physically Capable: You can carry 10–20 lbs (your typewriter), move tables/chairs, and remain composed during 1–5 hour sets with limited breaks.
- Technical Requirement: You must own a manual typewriter or be willing to purchase one that meets our standards.
- Sharp Style: You have a unique, bold personal aesthetic and a wardrobe of "cool" outfits ready for high-end events.
Logistics & Requirements
- Location: Most events are held in major cities in the US; light travel may be required.
- Environment: Must be comfortable working in dim lighting and loud, high-energy atmospheres.
- Team collaboration: Able to collaborate with event staff and fellow poets as part of a team.
- Communication: Fluent in English; additional languages are a plus.
