Part Time After School Program Counselor

We're seeking experienced after-school staff who are ready to lead from day one. You'll have current CPR/AED, First Aid, and Water Safety certifications—no onboarding delays, no exceptions. Anderson Mill Limited District offers several programs, including After School, Summer Camp, and Senior Programming. Under the direct supervision of the Program Supervisor, after-school staff helps facilitate an elementary school-aged after-school program and support events throughout the year. This position spans the RRISD school year calendar and is based on a 20+ hour work week (primarily Mon-Fri 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm), with occasional Holiday Camps and All-Day-Outs (7:15 am - 6:00 pm) and occasional weekend and evening events. We are seeking highly reliable and dependable staff to join our after-school team!

 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

 

SUPERVISION & SAFETY

  • Provide active, attentive supervision of children ages 5-11 in indoor and outdoor settings year-round
  • Maintain accurate daily check-in/check-out procedures and attendance records
  • Create and maintain a safe, clean, organized learning environment
  • Supervise children in aquatic activities during Friday fun days (early fall and late spring)
  • Follow all health, safety, and emergency protocols
  • Lift up to 30 lbs and engage in physical activity throughout the day

PROGRAMMING & ACTIVITIES

  • Lead and engage children in age-appropriate activities (games, crafts, sports, homework help, STEM, etc.)
  • Assist with organizing and creating after-school programming and educational curriculum
  • Support Holiday Camp and All-Day-Out events as needed
  • Communicate with parents about their child's experience and progress
  • Serve as a positive role model promoting respect, teamwork, and inclusion

TEAM COLLABORATION

  • Work directly under the Program & Events Supervisor and Programs Coordinator
  • Take feedback and supervision from both supervisory roles
  • Assist supervisors in managing daily program operations and event logistics
  • Greet and answer questions from the public about Parks, Recreation & Limited District programs
  • Collaborate effectively with fellow staff to ensure smooth daily operations
  • Work occasional weekends, evenings, and holiday events as scheduled

 

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:

  • Staff must be able to work at times under minimal supervision in a fast-paced and highly energetic
  • environment. The after-school program takes place indoors and outdoors year-round. After-school staff
  • is responsible for a very active position. This is not an administrative role. Candidates must be
  • able to lift up to 30lbs and repeatedly bend, stoop, and engage children in activities in a variety of
  • climates both inside and outside. Understanding, speaking, reading, and following diagrams and instructions in
  • English is necessary.

 

TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:

 

REQUIRED (Non-negotiable):

  • Current driver's license
  • Current certification in American Red Cross CPR/AED
  • Current certification in Basic First Aid
  • Current certification in Basic Water Safety
  • Current certification in Child Protection

PREFERRED (We're looking for):

  • 2+ years of college education in Child Care Education or Recreation Programming
  • Equivalent experience working with elementary-aged children (we'll consider experience in place of formal education)

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW:

This role is highly active—not administrative. You'll be on your feet, engaging children, managing activities, and supporting daily operations.
