Fall 2026 | Communications Student Assistant - Work Study
DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION: The Center for Teaching, Learning, and Scholarship (CTLS) provides teaching and learning support for Texas State University faculty. This includes hosting in-person and virtual workshops and programs, and providing other helpful resources. Our center is a unit within Faculty Success and is housed under the Office of the Provost and Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs.
JOB SUMMARY & RESPONSIBILITIES: The Communications Student Assistant supports the CTLS by promoting events, services, and initiatives through creative and strategic communication. This position will be scheduled for 10 hours per week and will include general administrative support. This person must be crazy good at communicating in a highly professional way and understand the “voice” to use with your audience.
Key responsibilities include:
- Assisting with additional administrative duties.
- Creating engaging content for the department’s social media platforms to boost visibility and engagement.
- Collaborating with other employees on marketing strategies and special projects.
- Assisting with updating and maintaining the department website.
PAYRATE DETERMINATION: The starting pay rate is $12 per hour, established in alignment with the Texas State University Pay Plan. Pay rate may increase by. 25 after two long semesters (fall & spring) of employment with a positive evaluation from their supervisor using the Student Employee Career Readiness Evaluation form.
SKILL DEVELOPMENT: In this role, students will build a variety of important skills based on the TXST Career Readiness Competencies, including:
- Technology: Gain hands-on experience using digital tools and platforms (e.g., social media, graphic design software, content scheduling) to support marketing and outreach efforts.
- Communication: Strengthen written, visual, and verbal communication skills by crafting engaging content, promoting events, and interacting with a diverse campus audience.
- Critical Thinking: Build problem-solving and decision-making skills while managing deadlines, adapting to shifting priorities, and evaluating the effectiveness of marketing strategies.
- Professionalism: Demonstrate reliability and accountability by producing high-quality work, managing time effectively, and maintaining consistent branding and messaging.
DIRECT SUPERVISOR: The immediate supervisor for this position will be Jordyn Campbell, the Administrative Assistant III for the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Scholarship.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
- Work Schedule: Applicants must be able to work during the office’s standard hours, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
- Skills Required: Strong verbal and written communication skills are necessary, along with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Skills & Experience (Optional):
- Familiarity with writing for social media, marketing, or design software (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) for promotional purposes.
- Experience assisting with event planning, office administration, or customer service.
