Alkek One Immersion Studio Assistant (Work Study) - Fall 2026

The Immersion Studio is a collaborative space within Alkek Library where students, faculty, and staff can explore emerging technologies through hands on experiences. The studio provides access to virtual reality (VR) headsets, educational workshops, interactive events, and immersive experiences that promote learning, creativity, and community engagement.

We are seeking student employees to join our team for the Fall 2026 semester. Student employees are responsible for providing exceptional customer service, assisting patrons with immersive technologies, maintaining studio equipment, and helping ensure the studio remains a welcoming, organized, and engaging environment.

Expected Responsibilities

Student employees will:

  • Welcome patrons and check them into the Immersion Studio.
  • Assist patrons with setting up, operating, and safely using VR headsets and related equipment.
  • Troubleshoot common VR hardware and software issues.
  • Monitor studio spaces and equipment to ensure proper use and adherence to studio policies.
  • Prepare, clean, organize, and maintain VR headsets, accessories, and other studio equipment.
  • Assist with workshops, demonstrations, tours, and special events hosted by the Immersion Studio.
  • Answer questions about available experiences, equipment, and studio resources.
  • Perform general upkeep and organizational tasks to maintain a clean and professional environment.
  • Complete other duties as assigned to support daily studio operations.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be enrolled as a Texas State University student and meet student employment eligibility requirements.
  • Have strong customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Be dependable, organized, and punctual.
  • Be comfortable learning and using new technologies.
  • Be able to work independently as well as collaboratively with a team.
  • Be able to lift and move equipment weighing up to approximately 25 pounds.
  • Be willing to work evenings or weekends as needed based on studio hours and special events.

Preferred Skills

Preference will be given to applicants who have experience with one or more of the following:

  • Virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), or other immersive technologies.
  • PC gaming, gaming consoles, or technology troubleshooting.
  • Customer service, technical support, or front desk experience.
  • Event support or workshop facilitation.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Training is provided, and previous VR experience is not required. We are looking for students who are enthusiastic about technology, eager to learn, and excited to help others explore immersive experiences
