About the Role

Hadar Academy is seeking a part-time Kindergarten and Grade 1 Math & English Teacher to provide strong foundational instruction in early literacy, English language development, and mathematics.

This role is ideal for an educator who is excellent with young learners, confident in teaching core academic skills, and energized by the opportunity to join a small, mission-driven school community.

The position is primarily part-time, though there may be potential to expand to a full-time role for a candidate who is interested in teaching additional subjects or supporting broader school needs.

The teacher will report to the Head of School and work closely with the Hadar team to create a joyful, orderly, academically serious classroom experience for our youngest elementary students.

Teaching Load and Schedule

The daily teaching load for this role includes:

• Kindergarten: 1 hour and 15 minutes of Math/English instruction each day
• Grade 1: Two 45-minute Math lessons each day
• Grade 1: One 45-minute English lesson each day

Additional responsibilities may include recess supervision, transitions, student support, classroom preparation, communication with school leadership, and participation in the daily life and culture of the school.

Key Responsibilities

The Kindergarten and Grade 1 Math and English Teacher will:

• Deliver clear, engaging, developmentally appropriate Math and English instruction to Kindergarten and Grade 1 students.
• Build foundational literacy skills, including phonics, reading fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, writing, grammar, narration, and oral expression.
• Teach mathematics in a way that promotes conceptual understanding, number sense, fluency, precision, and confidence.
• Create a classroom culture marked by warmth, order, curiosity, high expectations, and joy.
• Help students develop strong habits of attention, perseverance, respectful participation, and intellectual courage.
• Use lesson plans and curriculum materials thoughtfully, adapting instruction to meet students’ needs while preserving academic rigor.
• Monitor student progress and communicate observations clearly to the Head of School.
• Support Hadar’s broader school culture, including recess supervision, transitions, student routines, and shared expectations for behavior and character.
• Model professionalism, good judgment, humility, and a deep respect for Hadar’s mission.
• Contribute to a founding-school environment where flexibility, collaboration, and ownership are essential.
• Engage with students in a way that reflects Hadar’s Jewish ethos, love of learning, and commitment to moral formation.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be a gifted early elementary educator who understands that Kindergarten and Grade 1 are foundational years. This person should love teaching young children, bring structure without harshness, warmth without permissiveness, and academic ambition without losing sight of childhood wonder.

Strong candidates may come from a variety of backgrounds, including Jewish day schools, classical schools, private schools, homeschool or microschool settings, early elementary classrooms, literacy instruction, math instruction, or tutoring.

Qualifications

Required qualifications:

• Experience teaching or supporting early elementary students, ideally Kindergarten through Grade 2.
• Strong ability to teach foundational Math and English skills.
• Excellent classroom presence and age-appropriate behavior management.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• High attention to detail and strong organizational habits.
• Comfort working in a small, growing, mission-driven school.
• Alignment with Hadar Academy’s mission, values, and Jewish classical educational model.
• Willingness to complete all required onboarding, background checks, training, and school compliance requirements.

Preferred qualifications:

• Prior classroom teaching experience in a school setting.
• Experience with phonics-based reading instruction, early writing instruction, and/or Singapore-style or conceptually rich math instruction.
• Texas teaching certification or equivalent teaching experience.
• Experience in a Jewish, classical, private, homeschool, or faith-based educational environment.
• Interest in expanding the role to include additional subjects or school responsibilities.

Compensation

Compensation will be commensurate with experience and final role scope. The position is currently envisioned as part-time, with the possibility of becoming full-time if the candidate is interested in teaching additional subjects or assuming expanded responsibilities.
