THRC Student Worker
Department: This role is located within the Texas State University Translational Health Research Center (THRC). Specifically, this role supports center programs, projects, and activities related to research, assessment, outreach, and community-engaged work at TXST. The THRC partners with faculty, students, and community organizations to advance health through applied, collaborative work.
Job Summary:
Become a THRC Student Worker! THRC student workers are an important part of our team. You will help support the day-to-day work of the Center through front office, administrative, data, and event support. You will contribute to projects that support research, outreach, assessment, and community partnerships.

Job Duties:
THRC student workers have a wide range of specific accountabilities, including:
- Providing front office support for THRC, including greeting visitors, answering basic questions, and helping with everyday office tasks.
- Answering phones, taking messages, routing inquiries, and providing professional customer service to students, faculty, staff, and community partners.
- Helping with data collection, data entry, and spreadsheet updates for center programs and assessment activities, which may include tracking grant activity, project progress, community partnerships, and related information.
- Searching for, organizing, and updating information across shared files and systems to help keep records accurate and current as center projects and assessment systems develop.
- Assisting with scanning, filing, indexing, organizing records, and preparing documents or materials as needed.
- Assisting with THRC events, workshops, meetings, and outreach activities.
- Maintaining confidentiality of sensitive student, research, program, project, and office information.
- Completing other duties as assigned in support of the THRC mission and operations.
On-Campus Job Location: Nueces 247, Texas State University, San Marcos Campus
Work Schedule: Students in this position are expected to work up to 20 hours per week, and must be able to work in person at times during University Hours (Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm).
Employee Evaluation Process: Student employees are evaluated by their supervisor at the end of each long semester.
PAYRATE DETERMINATION: The starting pay rate is $14-16 per hour, established in alignment with the Texas State University Pay Plan. Payrate may increase by. 25 after two long semesters (fall & spring) of employment with a positive evaluation from their supervisor using the Student Employee Career Readiness Evaluation form.
SKILL DEVELOPMENT: In this role, students will build a variety of important skills based on the TXST CareerReadiness Competencies, including:
- Career & Self-Development: Gain hands-on experience in practical office management, helping them build professional habits and workplace confidence.
- Communication: enhance their communication skills through regular interaction with staff, faculty, and visitors in a professional setting.
- Critical Thinking: strengthen their ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
- Professionalism: Develop strong organizational skills by managing various office tasks efficiently and maintaining accurate records with a reliable and professional approach.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
- Availability: Must be available to work during the office’s hours of operation, between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Flexibility for occasional extended hours for events.
- Location: This position will be working in the Translational Health Research Center on the 2nd floor of Nueces Hall. May occasionally travel to THRC’s off-campus office located at 200 Stagecoach Trail in San Marcos using personal transportation (if available).

Preferred Skills & Experience:
- Experience assisting with event planning, office administration, or customer service.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and willingness to learn department-specific software
- Physical Requirements: Must be able to assist with light lifting related to deliveries and event setup.
- Academic Requirement (if any): A minimum GPA of 2.0 is required to be eligible for this position.
EMPLOYEE EVALUATION PROCESS: Student employees will receive feedback mid-semester and at the end of each term through a one-on-one evaluation with their supervisor, focused on strengths, growth areas, and career competency development.
