Financial Analyst
Who we are
We are a sell-side business brokerage and M&A firm specializing in the sale of healthcare practices. Most of our clients are selling businesses with between $1MM and $30MM in revenue per year. We are a small, close-knit, and nimble team based in Austin, TX who serves dozens of clients per year across the country.
We care deeply about our team culture, and built it around hiring people:
- Who are resourceful problem solvers that embrace adversity and who love to find ways around walls/blockages and to improve
- Who thrive in a team environment and know how to be a good teammate
- Who can communicate effectively and maintain a calm demeanor under pressure
- Who are organized, never helpless, and not afraid to grab the ball
The role and who you are
We are hiring for a full time financial analyst and underwriter. Ideal candidates get a kick out of being a detective, building an understanding of a business rooted in its data. We prefer a background in accounting, something like extensive experience as a bookkeeper, accountant, or credit analyst for small businesses, although roles in M&A and finance can work for this position as well if you aren’t afraid to get your hands dirty in financial statements and ledgers. This can be an entry level position for the right candidate.
Our financial underwriting team works with our clients and their accountants to retrieve their financial statements and operational data, process them into our internal review system, find discretionary and one time expenses on the books, and otherwise audit those financials to produce an internal, recasted version of their financial statements for buyers to review. Basically an internal pre-market Quality of Earnings analysis.
This is a great role for someone who:
- Likes significant variety in their day to day usage of their accounting skill set
- Enjoys being a financial detective, trying to understand how a business operates by looking at its books and related data.
- Wants to avoid the typical tax time crunches that come with the tax-prep CPA world.
- Wants to build the knowledge and intuition to be a truly valuable part of what is typically the largest financial decision a business owner will make
Must Haves
- Ability to live in Austin, TX and be in-office at our Austin HQ.
- Very comfortable with excel and google sheets along with a drive to use tools and develop methods to work smarter
- Ability to interact on a team and work in a collaborative environment
- Strong work ethic to do what it takes, a high attention to detail, and a desire to see that from your co-workers
- Well versed in financial statements and general bookkeeping and accounting principles
Helpful to Have:
- Licensed CPA (not required but could be helpful)
- BA/BS in accounting or finance
- 1 - 2 years of investment banking, commercial banking, or private equity experience
- Experience building financial models in Excel
- Extensive experience preparing both ledgers and financial statements with Quickbooks
- Experience reconciling tax returns, financial statements, and payroll reports
- Experience with the tax implications of selling a business
- Experience with Valuations/Appraisals
- Experience with financial statement analysis and data mining of key performance indicators from small business’s operational systems
Who you’ll be working with:
Our team is a combination of MBAs, healthcare operations professionals, real estate experts, CPAs/bookkeepers, and M&A professionals. You’ll receive hands-on training and help getting up to speed.
Compensation
This position starts around $65,000 per year based on experience. Entry-level candidates requiring skill building may start slightly lower during the first 12-24 weeks of training. We offer a 4% match on our 401(k) plan after 6 full calendar months, medical benefits, and a profit-sharing plan.
