Graduate Assistant for Recruiting and Retention (The Graduate College)
Job description
The Graduate College is seeking a graduate assistant (GA) to work with the Student Development Specialist II (SDS), supervisor, and Recruiting Coordinator on various events and initiatives. The Graduate College hosts six large-scale events (reaching 100-500 students each) and over 100 small-scale events (reaching 10-100 students each) every academic year. Pay rates are determined by the University Pay Plan for a Graduate Assistant position. Evaluations for this position are completed by both the Recruiting Coordinator and Student Development Specialist each semester.
Job Duties:
- Assist with event planning, execution, and evaluation (requires occasional evening and weekend work)
- Serve as backup to host/moderate Shop Talks workshops and Graduate Information Sessions as needed
- Represent department at various fairs and tabling events on campus
- Assist with outreach projects such as brochure distribution and email communication
- Maintain an inventory of all promotional items
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Ability to work methodically, pay attention to details, and meet frequent deadlines
- Strong organizational and time-management skills and an ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
- Excellent interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills
- Outstanding customer service experience
- Ability to work 20 hours per week with flexible hours to accommodate working events as needed
- Ability to assist with event setup and breakdown; must be able to lift/carry 25-40 pounds
Preferred Qualifications
- 2+ years of prior work experience in customer service and/or event coordination
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office tools
- Demonstrated experience working independently with minimal supervision
- Experience with inventory tracking and ordering
- Analytical and innovative mindset
- Experience with and interest in teamwork
- Experience using Adobe Creative Suite Products, specifically InDesign, Premiere, Audition, and/or Photoshop.
Graduate Assistantship Eligibility Requirements:

Must be eligible for Graduate Student Employment per UPPS No. 07.07.06, including:
- Good academic standing (no probation or suspension)
- Regularly-admitted to a graduate degree program (no conditional, non-degree, or graduating senior status)
- Enrolled in 9 or more graduate hours during Fall/Spring semesters (students starting a new program in the Spring or Summer must also enroll in 3 or more graduate hours in the Summer)
- If a newly-hired international student, must have approval from the International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) to work as a graduate assistant
