Summer 2026 | Student Employee (Work-Study) - Exploratory Advising Center

The Exploratory Advising Center is looking for a motivated and enthusiastic student employee for the summer. Time expectations are typically 10 to 25 hours per week during the summer sessions. Rate of pay is $12.00 per hour. The position is located on the San Marcos campus in Trauth-Huffman Hall (THH).

General Description

Provides quality administrative support to staff, faculty and students, ensuring all receive exemplary customer service and administrative support in a personalized and timely manner. 

 

Examples of Duties

Greet and assist students for the advising center and neighboring departments

Schedule academic advising appointments 

Confidentially maintain student records 

Interpret student records to answer routine questions; connect students to advisors as needed

Answer telephones; screen/transfer calls; take messages

Maintain the Trauth-Huffman Hall facility, ensuring custodial and maintenance issues are identified and reported promptly

Assist with meeting preparations: conference room preparation, hospitality, ushering, preparing/assembling documents and materials

Uphold punctuality as a priority

Dress appropriately for an office environment

Other duties as assigned, such as delivering items to campus departments and light housekeeping duties

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Applicants must also be detail-oriented and demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills 

Application materials (e.g., resume and cover letter) must be free of grammatical and spelling errors

Knowledge of Microsoft Office and computer proficiency 

Customer service experience 

 

Experience and Education

Texas State University students with work-study eligibility may apply for this position. A Texas State GPA of at least 3.0 is preferred.

 

Employee Evaluation Process

Evaluations are conducted after two long semesters.

 

Payrate Determination

Student employees will have a standard pay of $12/hour, which may increase depending on funding and/or a positive evaluation from a supervisor.
