Graduate Assistant - Program Support

This is an in-person position based on the San Marcos campus. Graduate students may hold only one Graduate Assistant appointment at a time. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. The preferred start date is summer; however, a fall start date may be considered.

 

Extended Learning seeks a graduate student with excellent communication and professional skills to fill the Graduate Assistant - Program Support position in our unit. This position provides critical, project-level assistance to Extended Learning staff members in the ongoing management of our programs, including extension studies, self-paced correspondence programs, and university compliance with distance learning regulations. In providing project-level support, the GA provides higher-level assistance to Extended Learning staff than student employees provide. This position is an opportunity for a TXST graduate student to work in a positive, team-oriented environment on a variety of challenging and interesting tasks in support of the university, while developing one’s skillset and gaining professional experience. The ideal candidate will be outgoing, personable, and comfortable interacting professionally. 

 

Required: 

  • Excellent reading, writing, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and Office applications (Teams, Word, Excel).
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Must be a graduate student in good academic standing at Texas State (enrolled in at least 9 credit hours per long semester).
  • Maintain a GPA of 3.0 throughout employment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding university matters.
     

Preferred: 

  • Experience maintaining websites or web pages
  • Previous experience in a professional office setting
  • Outgoing, personable, and comfortable interacting professionally

 

An applicant who is hired as a Graduate Assistant should expect a 20 hour-per-week time commitment. Work hours must fall between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Extended Learning will work with the Graduate Assistant to establish a work schedule that accommodates classes and personal commitments, but punctual, regular attendance according to the agreed-upon schedule will be expected of an onboarded Graduate Assistant.
