Legal Assistant
Sharlann Roe has a solo practice located downtown – just 5 minutes from West Campus. She has practiced Family Law, Probate Law, and Estate Planning in Austin for more than 40 years.
She is looking for someone to grow into the role of a legal assistant. While all grade levels are encouraged to apply, Freshman and Sophomores will be given special consideration.
She has participated with past assistants in programs for class credit earned while working.
As a new hire, you must be available 2 weeks in July to be trained by a departing assistant. This position will provide a valuable ongoing learning experience.
This position is year-round for approximately 20 hours per week. An ideal work schedule would be 4 hours per day in the morning or afternoon but, if necessary, efforts may be made to accommodate class schedules. Additional hours will be available when class is not in session. Beginning hourly wage is $16.00-$20.00 with increases over time as assistant gains experience
Ms. Roe’s assistant is expected to run errands on occasion and must have their own vehicle. Parking is provided.
Job duties include:
- Review, edit, and notarize documents produced by the attorney.
- Manage office operations by ordering necessary supplies.
- Coordinate meetings and Court appearances.
- Communicate with County and State Governmental Agencies.
- File and obtain records through County and District Clerks.
- Act as the first point of contact for all client-facing communications.
- Use organizational skills to maintain paper records of all communications.
- Manage detailed client case files.
- Prepare billing statement for client accounts.
- Effectively communicate with potential clients to evaluate their needs.
- In general, work closely with the attorney and anticipate the attorney’s needs.
Interviews to begin the first week in May. Hiring decisions to be made soon thereafter. Two-week paid training to start July 12, and position officially to start July 27.
