Temp Alkek Library Graduate Assistant
DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION: The University Libraries department is dedicated to providing essential services and support to the Texas State University community. We work to assist students, faculty, and staff by facilitating daily service operations, and ensuring access to research resources and spaces.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION : This is a temporary position, the position is for the period of April 29th to May 13th. Applications or inquires outside of the HandShake platform will not be reviewed.
JOB SUMMARY & RESPONSIBILITIES: The Temporary Alkek Library Graduate Assistant supports the department by monitoring early morning Alkek Library operations, proving wayfinding guidance, and creating a secure environment in collaboration with the onsite PSO (Public Safety Officer). Key responsibilities include:
- Monitoring the functioning of the entrances and reporting facilities issues through the proper channels.
- Submit incident reports as needed.
- Providing basic information, including but not limited to assisting with wayfinding by providing basic directions as needed.
- Report issues with printers and other high use equipment.
- Collaborate with onsite PSO.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
PAYRATE DETERMINATION: The payrate for this position is $25 per hour.
SKILL DEVELOPMENT: In this role, students will build a variety of important skills based on the TXST Career Readiness Competencies, including:
- Communication: Students will practice professional written and verbal communication through collaboration with the onsite PSO, email correspondence, and basic support.
- Teamwork & Collaboration: Students will work closely with the onsite PSO to ensure smooth library operations and a safe and supportive environment for our patrons.
- Professionalism: Students demonstrate reliability, accountability, and integrity while following University Libraries policies.
DIRECT SUPERVISOR: Head of Public Services
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Work Schedule: Students must be able to work early mornings, available from 1:00 a.m. - 7:30 a.m. for the two week period of April 29th - May 13th including Saturdays and Sundays.
- Location: This position will be working in the Alkek Library.

Preferred Skills & Experience (Optional):
- Experience with customer service, or late night work schedules.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and willingness to learn department-specific software.
