Marketing Department Intern

Department Description: The Marketing Department oversees the majority of the Austin Film Festival’s Marketing efforts. Such efforts include (but are not limited to): Grassroots Marketing, Social Media Marketing, Online Digital Marketing, Print, Television Ads, Radio Ads, and more. The Marketing Department often collaborates with all other departments within the organization to ensure Austin Film Festival’s mission reaches the broadest possible audience.

 

Job Description: Responsibilities include, but are not limited to assisting the Marketing Department with research, copy writing, grassroots efforts and internet marketing strategies.  This includes working with social media, flyer design, event promotion, etc.  Researching, compiling, and updating media lists, tracking media hits and archiving. During the Festival: Assisting with the Press Room, flyer distribution, red carpets, social media, and more.

This person will work directly with our marketing team; the intern will learn the basics of promotions law and assist the marketing coordinator from time to time as well.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist with Marketing & Demographic Research
  • Create and write Marketing Copy
  • Being coachable and able to collaborate between various AFF departments.
  • Utilize Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other appropriate social media platforms.
    • Understand the different “usage rules” between all social media platforms.
    • Help optimize social media campaigns, tweaking them as required.
    • Explore other social media platforms to reach and engage our target audience.
  • Assist with all marketing efforts from the department. Such examples include personal email and phone outreach, flyer / poster distribution, social media posts, etc.
  • Assist in collecting marketing analytics to help the Marketing Department make conclusive decisions and strategies.

 

Project Ownership Opportunities:

Approximately a month into each internship, interns will be assigned one of the following projects to own throughout the rest of the internship’s duration. Project assignment is based upon interns’ capabilities and goals.

  • Community Outreach
  • Social Media Campaigns and advising on the best strategy.
  • Inter-Department Collaborative Marketing Projects. Such examples include marketing for Year-Round Events, Camp Events, Film & Screenplay Competitions, Promoting On Story, etc.
  • Assisting with PR Company (in the Fall). Examples: Assisting with Press Room and Red Carpet
  • Assisting with Various Festival Needs (during the Festival in October)
  • Help expand AFF’s online digital footprint and brand presence.

 

Interns will get the opportunity to:

  • Develop a diverse set of marketing skills to reach target audiences.
  • Develop comprehensive understanding of utilizing different marketing efforts.
  • See how an AFF marketing campaign is built from beginning to end.
  • Utilize their critical thinking skills and give input on marketing strategies.
  • Identify market trends; see what works and what does not.

 

Qualifications:

  • Timeliness, reliability, and responsibility are key
  • Professional demeanor
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work under pressure and with deadlines
  • Highly organized
  • Ability to think outside of the box
  • Comfortable on the phone
  • Creative Writing
  • Adobe Suite knowledge a plus, but not required
  • Highly communicative
  • Familiarity with web based best practices including social media trends

 

Timeframe: Fall, Spring, Summer semesters
