Graduate Research Assistant - Workforce Innovation 

The Graduate Research Assistant provides support to the Department of Organization, Workforce, and Leadership Studies using qualitative and quantitative research skills and techniques. This team member assists with investigating workforce innovation and development trends, project management, and outreach activities related to workforce development. This position is supervised by Dr. Ashford-Hanserd in the Department of Organization, Workforce, and Leadership Studies. Student employees are evaluated by their supervisor at the end of each long semester.

Applicant must be accepted into the Graduate College at Texas State University. Please note that to remain eligible for this position, the graduate assistant must maintain 9 hours of enrollment in graduate courses per semester and maintain satisfactory academic achievement. We are looking for someone who can work regular hours each week. 

 

Duties: 

  • Collect, manage, and analyze data as part of a team of faculty (e.g., conduct interviews, distribute surveys, review transcripts, identify themes and patterns). 
  • Provide support by reviewing relevant literature, white papers, and briefs to identify the latest workforce development trends, and by identifying appropriate research sources. 
  • Support the research team’s use of technology in data collection, data analysis, and disseminating findings.  
  • Provide a weekly progress update to the Department Chair and maintain regular communication with designated department faculty and staff. 
  • Complete CITI’s human subject research training and other assigned trainings. 
  • Support planning for the department’s workforce development initiatives, as needed, including the inaugural Workforce Innovation Summit. 
  • Participate in professional development and independent study relevant to Dr. Ashford-Hanserd’s funded research in STEM workforce Development. 
  • Maintain a weekly schedule of 20 hours a week on campus in San Marcos in the Pedernales Building. 
  • Maintain confidentiality and exercise appropriate judgment in carrying out duties. 

 

Required Qualifications:  

  • Demonstrate communication skills useful in supporting qualitative data collection and analysis. 
  • Must be able to work independently, collaboratively, and exercise confidentiality as each situation requires while completing the above duties. 
  • Must meet all eligibility requirements as laid out in the policies for graduate research assistants at Texas State. 
  • Must be able to commit to a regular schedule of 20 hours a week. 
  • Must have familiarity with Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook, and web browsers.  
  • Must be willing and able to learn new skills to enhance work. 

 

Desired Qualifications:  

  • Familiarity with gathering research data through semi-structured interviews. 
  • Completion or current enrollment in OCED 5300 or similar graduate research methods course. 
  • Familiarity with SPSS or similar statistical analysis software. 
  • Familiarity with NVIVO or similar qualitative data analysis software. 
  • Familiarity with Qualtrics survey development, distribution, and data management. 
  • Familiarity with American Psychological Association (APA) 7 formatting and writing style . 
  • Familiarity with Windows operating system.
