Strategic Operations Intern

The Strategic Operations (SO) division within System Support Services at the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) is seeking motivated interns for Summer 2026. Strategic Operations supports all of the HHS operations through a portfolio of functional areas including asset management, contract operations, emergency management, customer service, audio visual and webcasting, printing services, records management, and staff learning and professional development. The division ensures HHS staff have the resources, infrastructure, and operational support needed to effectively serve Texans statewide.


Responsibilities:
The intern may be assisting Strategic Operations staff with any of the following tasks depending on their skillsets and academic disciplines:


∙ Developing and standardizing SharePoint sites across all SO functional areas


∙ Drafting policies and standard operating procedures


∙ Building data collection and reporting infrastructure using tools such as

 Tableau, Power BI, Power Automate, Canvas, Power Apps, or Dataverse


∙ Establishing key performance indicators for program areas


∙ Conducting research and analysis to support strategic planning initiatives


∙ Assisting with the coordination of operational projects across asset management, contract operations, emergency management, records management, printing services, or learning and professional development


Minimum Requirements:
∙ Currently enrolled graduate student or high-performing undergraduate at the junior or senior level


∙ Pursuing a degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Management, Human Resources, Public Policy, Political Science, Data Analytics, Information Systems, Operations Management, Communications, Technical Writing, Adult Education, Process Improvement, Project Management, Organizational Development, Computer Graphic Design, Journalism, or a related field


∙ GPA of 2.5 or above


∙ Must be currently enrolled, in good academic standing, and not on any type of probation


∙ Strong written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, ability to work independently, willingness to learn new systems and tools, and strong research skills


Preferred Qualifications:
∙ Experience or coursework with SharePoint, Power BI, Dataverse, Canva, Power Automate, Power Apps, Canvas, or Adobe Suite


∙ Familiarity with data visualization or business analytics tools


∙ Experience creating and developing standard operating procedures and policies


∙ Strong organizational skills

 

∙ Strong interpersonal skills

 

 


Internship Details:
∙ Unpaid internship


∙ Hybrid, in-person or virtual - This will be decided case by case depending on the student and project assigned.


∙ Location: North Austin Campus, 4601 W. Guadalupe St., Austin, TX 78751


∙ Approximately 20 hours per week


∙ May 26 through July 31, 2026
