Job Description: Alkek Library Student Employee- 6th Floor Project (Spring 2026)
Alkek Library is seeking Work-Study–eligible student employees for Spring 2026 to assist with a temporary 6th Floor project.
Position Overview
This position focuses on physical collection work related to a library reorganization project. Student employees must be reliable, punctual, and able to follow directions, and are expected to work independently with minimal direct supervision.
Responsibilities
- Shifting library collections
- Pulling and relocating books to other floors
- Placing books in bins to be relocated
- Dusting and cleaning collection areas
- Performing other duties as assigned
Physical & Environmental Requirements
Frequent bending, kneeling, crouching, standing, and manual labor
Regular exposure to dust (masks and supplies will be provided)
Closed toe shoes are required
Hours & Pay
Up to 20 hours per week
$10.00 per hour
Qualifications
Must be Work-Study eligible
Ability to work independently
Previous library experience (paid or volunteer) is a plus, but not required
Knowledge of Library of Congress Classification is a plus, but not required
Flexibility to work early morning, afternoon, evening, and weekend shifts is preferred

Additional Information
This is a temporary position
After completion of the project, a position with the Ask Alkek Service Desk may be available; however, this position is tentative and not guaranteed
Continued employment is dependent on position availability, performance, adherence to policies, punctuality, schedule, and reliability.
Employee evaluations occur at the end of each semester
Payrate is set at $10 per hour.
