Graduate Assistant (GA), Internship Connections

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Graduate Assistant (GA) for Internship Connections plays an important role in advancing internship awareness, access, and educational support for students at Texas State University. This position will focus on intentional outreach and sharing of internship opportunities, leading educational activities, and collaborating with Career Services and campus partners to grow and refine how internships are promoted and understood. The Graduate Assistant will leverage digital tools and direct engagement to help students navigate the internship process and empower their career development.

Through innovative programs and comprehensive services, Career Services at Texas State University assists students and alumni in pursuing and achieving their career potential.  The Internship Connections area within Career Services works to increase participation in internships and other experiential education programs that support short- and long-term career exploration, readiness, and success.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO LEARN IN THE ROLE:

  • Enhance skills in public speaking and digital content creation for student audiences
  • Gain experience designing outreach campaigns, managing digital internship feeds, and supporting educational programming 
  • Develop abilities in data labeling, collection, and analysis to measure and improve how internship opportunities are identified and shared
  • Build experience collaborating with campus departments and professional staff to enhance career development and internship education for students 

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES: 

  • Manage and curate internship opportunities for RSS feeds and other sharing platforms
  • Send weekly communications to liaisons and student groups about new opportunities and resources
  • Utilize digital platforms and marketing strategies to promote internship opportunities
  • Collect and interpret data regarding internship postings, participation, and student feedback to inform program development
  • Develop, promote, and facilitate engagement opportunities such as office hours and workshops focused on internship readiness and success
  • Design and lead brief presentations and outreach activities in classes and campus orientations, as well as record short videos explaining key internship topics
  • Support scholarship application reviews and provide feedback on internship reflections
  • Share student success stories on social media and other platforms to celebrate achievements and encourage broader participation

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completed bachelor’s degree from accredited institution of higher education 
  • Full-time enrollment in a Texas State University graduate program
  • Proficiency in using spreadsheets (e.g., Excel) and basic office software
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy 
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Demonstrated understanding of the importance and impact of internships on career development; prior internship experience is a plus
  • Experience in developing and delivering presentations to student audiences
  • Familiarity with identifying, organizing, and sharing data across platforms 
  • Ability to work collaboratively on teams and build relationships with campus partners 

DIRECT SUPERVISOR: Amanda Ritter – Assistant Director, Internship Connections

ON-CAMPUS JOB LOCATION: 5th Floor of the LBJ Student Center, in Career Services

WORK SCHEDULE: The graduate student in this position is expected to work in-person an average of 20 hours per week. Exact day and times to be decided between student and supervisor. 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Approximate start date: January 20, 2026
  • Average of 20 hours per weeks
  • Remain enrolled in nine graduate hours at Texas State University each long semester and maintain a 3.0 GPA
  • 4-month appointment with the opportunity to renew for Fall 2026 semester
  • Available to work some evenings and weekends 

SALARY: Opportunity to earn up to $1,600 per month. Paid monthly.
