Customer Service Associate

Title: Customer Service Associate

Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour

Job description:

Are you passionate about people, retail, and creating memorable shopping experiences? Join our team at The Pomegranate or Gruene Outfitters, a locally owned boutique in the historic Gruene district. We’re looking for Retail Store Associates with prior retail or customer-facing experience who can bring energy, professionalism, and a love for helping others.

Compensation: $10.00–$18.00 per hour, based on experience + employee discounts, benefits, and growth opportunities.

The Stores:

Gruene Outfitters and The Pomegranate are locally owned small businesses conveniently located between Austin and San Antonio. We serve a diverse customer base including locals, vacationers, and international travelers. Both stores offer high-end outdoor and lifestyle clothing, accessories, and gift items such as fly fishing gear, name brand shoes and clothing, sunglasses, leather goods, knives, and jewelry.

Work Schedule and Hours:

Weekend and holiday availability is required, with one weekend off allowed per month.

  • During the school year: Approximately 24 hours per week (great for students or individuals looking for steady part-time work)
  • During summer and academic breaks: 32–40 hours per week, typically 8-hour shifts with a 30-minute paid break
  • Year-round full-time positions also available for qualified candidates

Training and Onboarding:

New hires will receive an employee policy packet before or on their first day and will be onboarded directly by their supervisor. The first 90 days serve as a probationary period, with regular check-ins and on-the-job training.

Key Responsibilities:

Customer Service & Sales

  • Deliver outstanding, personalized service in-store and over the phone
  • Build genuine connections while helping customers find the right products
  • Assist with purchases, returns, and exchanges while maintaining accuracy in transactions
  • Stay knowledgeable about promotions, new arrivals, and store events
  • Support sales goals through upselling and cross-selling when appropriate

Teamwork & Communication

  • Collaborate with teammates to ensure smooth daily operations
  • Communicate with empathy and professionalism across all roles
  • Support peer training and onboarding as needed

Merchandising & Store Operations

  • Receive, unpack, and restock merchandise efficiently
  • Keep the sales floor, fitting rooms, and checkout areas clean and organized
  • Follow visual merchandising standards and seasonal displays
  • Operate the POS system accurately and handle cash/card transactions responsibly

Store Safety & Maintenance

  • Help ensure store safety and organization at all times
  • Support stockroom organization, store cleanliness, and basic upkeep
  • Follow company policies and loss prevention practices

Growth & Innovation

  • Take initiative in personal and professional growth
  • Share creative ideas to improve customer experience and store efficiency
  • Stay informed on outdoor and lifestyle trends to better assist customers

What We're Looking For:

  • 2-3+ years of retail or customer service experience REQUIRED
  • Comfortable working with POS systems, merchandising, and handling transactions
  • Friendly, dependable, and team-oriented
  • Able to multitask and adapt in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication skills with customers and coworkers
  • Commitment to at least 2 years with the company
  • Availability to work weekends and holidays (with one weekend off per month)

Job Types and Pay:

Full-time, Part-time | $16.00 – $18.00 per hour (based on experience)
