Position Overview
The Graduate Assistant (GA) for Student Center Experience plays a vital role in enhancing student engagement and campus experience within the LBJ Student Center team, focusing on leadership, supervision, and the development of George’s student employees. This position supports the operations and programming of George’s—an informal social and recreational space located in the LBJ Student Center that hosts 50–80 events each semester. The GA will co-supervise student employees, lead event planning, and collaborate on marketing and outreach efforts to promote George’s as a vibrant campus hub.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as a co-supervisor to George’s student employees responsible for developing and maintaining a welcoming environment via services, events, and activities.
- Recruitment, hiring, and training of student employees
- Plan, execute, and assess programming and events
- Advise student organizations co-sponsoring events at George’s
- Attend events to ensure successful program execution and risk management
- Collaborate with LBJ Student Center Creative to develop advertising, promotion, and public relation materials for George’s
- Responsible for the timely implementation of marketing materials and social media for George’s.
- Maintain supplies and equipment inventory
- Provide support for LBJ Student Center Operations and programs
Required Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education before start date
- Enrollment in a graduate degree program at Texas State University
- Conditional acceptance into the Graduate College at Texas State University is permissible.
- Demonstrated excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with a team of professionals
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and take initiative
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends
Preferred Qualifications:
- One year experience with campus activities
- Experience with marketing and promotions
- Experience working in or familiarity with college unions/student centers
Learning Objectives:
By completing this assistantship, the student will be able to:
- Design and implement engaging student programs with marketing, outreach, and assessment components
- Demonstrate effective supervision and training of student employees
- Communicate the mission and vision of the LBJ Student Center and its role on campus
Terms of Employment:
- Start date: January 12, 2026, or sooner
- Acceptance into or enrolled in a graduate degree program at Texas State University
- Remain enrolled in nine graduate hours each long semester, and maintain a 3.0 GPA
- Average of 20 hours worked per week (unless otherwise approved by department director)
- 12-month appointment with the opportunity to renew for a second year.
- Available to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends
Salary
- Monthly stipend received at the beginning of each month
- Average of $1,371/monthly (first year of employment)
- Average of $1,691.95/monthly (second year of employment)
