Work Study Student Worker (Spring 2026)

The Department of Geography and Environmental Studies is looking to hire an hourly student worker for the Spring 2026 semester at a pay rate determined at $15/hour.

 

The student worker position provides quality administrative support to the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies faculty and staff, ensuring Texas State University students, parents and visitors receive accurate assistance in a personalized and timely manner. The Work Study Student Worker position with the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies serves as the first point of contact and assists customers at the front desk. Student workers assist in our department's main office in Evans Liberal Arts and are directly supervised by our Admin Assistant II, Kennedy Kindred. 

 

The hours for this position are as follows: MUST BE AVAILABLE TO WORK A MINIMUM OF 10 HOURS!

 

Some additional shifts outside of normal office hours for special events will also be available, especially on Fridays.

As a representative of Texas State University and the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies, the student worker must be professional, reliable, and reflect positively upon the department. Student workers are expected to work when scheduled and be on time for assigned shifts; the Department will work with the student to ensure they are scheduled for times that do not conflict with their studies. The student worker must be dependable, responsible, and ready to do what is needed. 

Applicants should be familiar with the MS Office Suite (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint), social media, email, and internet. 

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Greeting and assisting all students and visitors to the department promptly and professionally.
  • Frequently interact with students, professors, administrative assistants, deans, other University offices and the general public.
  • Responsible for handling multi-line telephone and transferring calls to appropriate individuals or providing information to the caller, using proper phone etiquette.
  • Assisting faculty and staff as required.
  • Data entry and creating documents.
  • Running errands/documents to other buildings on campus as required.
  • Copying, mailing, filing, assisting with various office projects, etc.
  • Assisting with meeting and event planning and preparations.
  • Maintaining clean environments in our spaces and assisting the moving of office equipment/furniture as needed.
  • Other duties include handling day-to-day tasks for office operation, and other assigned tasks.

Student workers will be evaluated at the end of each semester based on performance of listed job duties.
