Data Automation Engineer Intern

Summary of Responsibilities:

As a Data Automation Engineer Intern, you will work hands-on with real company data and support multiple departments by building and maintaining automation solutions. Your primary focus will be on Python and SQL development, with exposure to BI reporting and executable deployment. This position will report directly to the Data Engineer/Business Intelligence Specialist but will have exposure to the wider business teams. Interns will complete a capstone type project over the summer culminating in a presentation to business leadership. 

 

Key Projects (Summer 2026)

  • Python Automation: Develop and maintain automation scripts for cross-department processes (file handling, scheduled jobs, API calls, Data Pipelines, etc.).
  • Executable Deployment: The potential to package Python scripts into executable (.exe) files for ease of distribution and use.
  • Database Work: Write and optimize SQL queries within MySQL to extract, validate, and analyze data.
  • Version Control: Use Git/GitHub for collaborative development and source code management.
  • Special Projects: Support supervisor-directed projects and ad-hoc initiatives.

 

Required Education and Experience:

  • Pursuing an undergraduate (or Graduate) degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science, Informational Systems, or related field
  • Rising junior status or above
  • Knowledge of Python (required); prior experience automating tasks is a plus.
  • Knowledge of SQL (highly preferred); experience with MySQL strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with Git and GitHub (preferred).
  • Knowledge of Power BI or other data visualization tools (preferred).
  • Understanding of relational database concepts (preferred).
  • Demonstrated leadership & academic achievement in student & extracurricular activities
  • Adaptability & ability to work independently
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Collaborated well in both one-on-one and teamwork settings
  • GPA of 3.65+ (preferable major related)
  • No previous experience required

 

Certain peak periods may provide opportunity for overtime. This is a paid position. The summer internship will run for 12 weeks from May to August. Exact dates flexible based on school schedules.
