Student Office Worker (Work-Study Only)
School of Art & Design – Texas State University

The School of Art & Design is seeking dependable and motivated student office workers to support our administrative team in keeping the office running smoothly. This position is open exclusively to Texas State University students who have a current Federal or State Work-Study award for the applicable semester. Responsibilities

  • Serve as the first point of contact for the School of Art & Design’s front desk.
  • Greet and assist visitors, faculty, staff, and students in person, over the phone, and through email.
  • Handle and track deliveries, process all packages, and assist with purchase tracking.
  • Support clerical tasks such as filing, shredding, organizing documents, and maintaining records.
  • Help maintain the shared breakroom and office supply inventory.
  • Keep departmental poster boards current, neat, and organized.
  • Use chat communication with the student worker team for smooth shift transitions and updates.
  • Work independently at the front desk during assigned shifts, providing professional and reliable coverage.

Qualifications

  • Current Texas State University student in good academic standing.
  • Must have an active Federal or State Work-Study award for the semester of employment, as verified by the Office of Financial Aid.
  • Must be enrolled at least half-time (minimum 6 credit hours) for the semester of employment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently.
  • Comfortable multitasking and managing a busy office environment.
  • Eager to learn office software and internal communication tools.

Work Environment and Schedule

  • Position available exclusively to students with verified work-study eligibility for the semester.
  • Work schedules are arranged around class times, and students may not work during class hours.
  • Students may work up to a maximum of 25 hours per week; actual hours are determined by class schedules and office needs—no minimum required.
  • Independent work is balanced with close coordination with the student worker team and administrative staff.
  • Training and ongoing support provided by office staff.

Compensation

  • Pay starts at $10.00 per hour.
  • Returning student workers may be eligible for pay raises in subsequent semesters at the department’s discretion.
  • All hours worked comply with university student employment and work-study guidelines.

Applicants must confirm work-study award status prior to applying. Positions are filled on a first-come, first-served basis for eligible students each semester.
