Ask Alkek Desk Student Employee (Work Study Only)
The Ask Alkek Desk at Alkek Library is looking to hire student employees for the Fall 2025 semester. Student employees at the Ask Alkek desk are responsible for checking materials in and out, answering a broad range of questions regarding the library and the university in person and via phone, providing basic troubleshooting for computers and printers, provide general research help, and other related duties assigned.
Ideal candidates should have the following qualifications:

- ability to complete assignments on time
- ability to take directions from supervisor(s) and communicate effectively with supervisors and employees
- Must be able to adhere to policies and procedures set forth in employee handbook
- Must be able to navigate work platforms such as Teams and Microsoft Outlook
Student employees will be capable of working independently of direct supervision. Previous library experience (volunteer or otherwise) is a plus but not required. Knowledge of Library of Congress Classification is a plus but not required.

Must be available to work weekends, closing shifts, and opening shifts. The library opens at 7:30am and closes at 1am. Flexibility working early, afternoon, evening, and weekend shifts is a plus.
The employee evaluation process will be at the end of each semester and evaluated based off employee performance. These positions are temporary and poor work performance, failure to adhere to policies, and tardiness will be factors considered for not continuing employment with the Ask Alkek service desk.
The payrate is set at $10 per hour.
