Archives and Research Center Assistant

This position is located at STAR Park on McCarty Lane. 5 miles from main campus.

 

Employees in this job perform a variety of material-handling assignments where the tracking, transport, retrieval, processing and distribution of physical objects are essential and/or substantial parts of the work. Employees also ensure delivery of excellent customer service to patrons desiring access to a broad spectrum of resources.  

 

 Job Duties:  

Loads and unloads trucks for daily pick-up and delivery runs.  

Operates delivery vehicle across campus in order to pick-up and deliver materials for university patrons and staff.  

Lifts totes and other objects weighing up to 50 pounds, rolls book trucks/dollies on a variety of surfaces including inclines.  

Operates a pallet jack and a hand truck to load and unload vehicles.  

Processes incoming material for storage.  

Assembles pre-fabricated cardboard trays.  

Cleans books, archival boxes and other library materials according to specified instructions.  

Scans and applies new Bar Code to material.  

Sizes and places items into trays. 

Accessions items using the ARC’s stand-alone inventory database Caiasoft. 

Verifies all entries into Caiasoft.  

Prepares materials for delivery.    

Maintains the order and cleanliness of work area and equipment.  

Maintains logs and records of activities as required.  

Other duties as assigned.  

 

 Qualifications:   

• Demonstrated ability to work in a warehouse or other production environment. 

• Demonstrated ability to work successfully in a multi-task and team environment performing rotating tasks.  

• Strong organizational skills  

• Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.  

• Demonstrated ability to perform computer data entry.   

• The ability to work in a fast-paced environment with strong attention to accuracy and detail.  

• Handle heavy loads (lift 50 lbs. regularly; 80 lbs. on occasion with assistance.)  

• Work in a climate-controlled environment of 50 degrees and 30% relative humidity.

• Using computer software applications - including but not limited to: MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, Internet browsers; and basic desktop and internet applications  

 

Preferred Qualifications:  

Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
