Job Overview:
The Graduate Assistant for Success Coaching at Round Rock works individually with students to develop skills, behaviors, and habits that facilitate success at the university. Success Coaches work with all students to support their semester outcomes, which may include setting academic and personal goals, developing time management skills, enhancing learning strategies, and using resources. The Success Coach will collaborate with staff to plan and promote campus events designed to foster academic engagement and strengthen students’ academic skills. The role contributes to Texas State University's Student Success initiatives through direct student coaching, outreach, and data collection.
Primary Responsibilities:
Meet regularly with a caseload of students and properly document student progress.
Participate in both preliminary and on-going training.
Assist in the day-to-day operations of the Success Coaching program.
Assist with student program assessment and follow-up.
Communicate student concerns and issues to supervisor.
Assist in promoting the Success Coaching program.
Assist in planning and implementation of campus events that support academic engagement and the development of academic skills for student success.
Perform other duties as assigned in relation to community trends, student needs, and emergency response.
Professional Responsibilities
Attend staff meetings and make referrals to campus resources.
Assist in training programs for Student Success & Academic Services student employees.
Promote Student Success & Academic Services through presentations to student organizations, faculty, and staff.
Build collaborative relationships with key faculty and staff.
Training and Certification
Completes Success Coaching training and maintains relevant certifications.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge:
Academic and success coaching strategies and best practices.
Learning assistance center programs, services, and trends.
Research in student success, teaching methodologies, and academic support services.
Skills:
Analytical: Collects and interprets data for student success strategies.
Technology: Uses learning management systems and student success software.
Communication: Conducts presentations, writes reports, and facilitates training sessions.
Interpersonal: Builds strong relationships with students, faculty, and staff.
Problem-Solving: Makes data-informed decisions to improve student outcomes.

Organize and manage student coaching sessions efficiently.
Balance multiple administrative and student support tasks.
Analyze and address academic performance issues.
Foster a supportive and inclusive environment for student success.
Mission of the Hiring Office
The Student Success & Academic Services department provides programs and resources to Round Rock campus students to support academic and post-graduation goals with a focus on recruitment, persistence, retention and completion. Our department is a welcoming space and typically serves as the first point of contact for campus guests, prospective students, and community partners when they call and visit the Round Rock Campus.

Terms of Employment:
Average of 20 hours worked per week, 9 and 12-month appointments with opportunity to renew for a second year
Start date: October 13, 2025
Must be a graduate student in good academic standing at Texas State University
Must be enrolled in at least 9 hours each long semester
Available to work some evenings and weekends
All candidates must be accepted into their program and have a cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher
No paid leave for: vacation, sick time, university observed holidays or university emergency closures
Salary:
1481.00 per month
