Building Maintenance Assistant

University Libraries - Alkek Library 

 

The Alkek Library is looking to hire a Building Maintenance Assistant to assist our Maintenance Coordinator with keeping our Library clean, safe and a positive environment for our patrons. 

This position's hours are 8am-4pm M-F, with moderate supervision. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform daily building upkeep, including cleaning, recycling, and waste management tasks.
  • Assist with furniture installation, replacement, and minor repairs.
  • Prepare and maintain office spaces for new occupants ("office make-ready" tasks).
  • Conduct minor mechanical repairs as needed.
  • Perform routine inspections to ensure facility safety and functionality.
  • Assist with event setup and breakdown as required.

Daily/Weekly/Monthly duties:

  • Complete To-Do, unexpected, and emergency work lists in a timely manner daily.
  • Review and complete Facilities Maintenance/Custodial Requests daily.
  • Remove unauthorized posters daily.
  • Remove the cardboard from recycling bins daily.
  • Conduct walk-thru of all floors reporting issues with lights, furniture, and study rooms, and check the cleanliness of study pods, and other important issues in the building weekly.
  • Sweep the mailroom entry and both the north and south loading docks weekly.
  • Clean the banister and handrails of the grand stairwell weekly.
  • Clean the breezeway, remove the trash, wipe and dust on a weekly basis; mop the TX State emblem on a monthly basis.
  • Semi-annually paint rooms and perform other updates.

Required qualifications:

  • Must be able and willing to walk and stand extensively throughout the work shift.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. (i.e. moving furniture, supplies, and equipment)
  • Must be mechanically inclined and familiar with tools, tool safety, and portable power tools.

 

Payrate Determination: $10/hr.

Direct Supervisor:  Maintenance Coordinator - Paul Flores

Employee Evaluation Process: Student employees will be evaluated mid-semester and end of each semester with direct supervisor.
